About a while ago I ran chkdsk to check and recover bad sectors and fix system files and it then froze at 43% on stage 5 of 5. I left it on through out the night and I went to school and came back it was still at 43%. I then manually shut down the computer and ever since I have been trying to fix the problem. It was the second time I ran chkdsk on this pc while having windows 7 I usually run chkdsk every month or so to make sure everything is functioning right. After my problem occured I have tried so many things i have ran spinrite,I have reinstalled windows, I have tried to run chkdsk on safe mode, I have tried sfc/scannow, and chkdsk /p and all of these things did not fix the problem. Chkdsk /p was the only thing that didnt even try to fix anything because it said invalid parameter. Also when I reinstalled windows 7 on my pc then chkdksk froze at 49% on stage 5 of 5. I even ran diagnostics from the bios and I use Seagate Seatools and both diagnostics said my hard drive was perfectly fine. I also tried running chkdsk from the windows 7 cd and for some reason it completed in less than 2 hours. I then ran chkdsk from the pc and it then froze again this made me think that there had to be something wrong with my pc. So I was wondering how can I get chkdsk to complete perfectly from my pc again instead of using the windows 7 cd each time.

Ok. Also I really appreciate your time and effort. Also do you think I should make the 40.00 GB partition and the free space to one whole partition? Also if we extend the backup partition I created what if we put the bad blocks in there by mistake? What is maximum amount of space you think I should add to the backup partition?
Also do you think we will be done fixing this problem soon?
No a USB 4GB flash drive is too small, I was thinking along the line of a USB external hard drive. However since you don't have one available I'm working a method that will make use of your backup partition on the laptop. This will of course slow down the time it a takes for both a backup and recovery dramatically.
The backup of both the 100MB System Reserverd and Windows partitions are both required.
As to how to perform the backup that will be part of the instructions I will provide once I've complete my test and documented everything. So far I have over 8 hours of time invested and multiple pages of documentation which makes it nearly impractical to post on the Forum so I will provide you with a link to my web site where you can read and print a copy of the instructions. The step you need to create the image backup using Acronis True Image I'll post here.
Since you need a place to store the image backup we will create a larger backup partition (if necessary) to use as a respository for the Image Backup file.
I'll post the instructions on how I want you to create that partition after you re-confirm that your drive partitions are as follows (and the amounrt of free space still remaining on your C: Windows partition.

Yes I do have an external USB but the thing is since you told me to backup partitions it turned out to be too much space for my USB.
I would like to be on the same page here. Why do you want me to do a backup of both partitions? Cant I just make a backup of the files that matter to me?
If I have to do a backup of the partitions and you think doing it on a USB will be able to carry all of that then I dont think that will be possible since all I got is 4GB USB.
Also I think I am doing the backup wrong. Where would you want me to go to do this backup the way you think should work.
I am sorry....but I would like to clear everything out so when we do need to do the backup something doesnt go wrong.
Also I have found the Windows XP disk. I was wondering if doing a full format from the Windows XP disk on the partition with the bad blocks would work.
An Image Backup file is actually compressed and will generally on take up to 40% less space that a file by file back does.
Also file by file or cloning may have some issues. How much space does Windows 7 (less the pagefile occupy) also you most likely have a Hibernation file (Hiberfile.sys) that can be temporaly eliminated saving even more space.
Don't you have access to an external USB drive?
In any case my first attempt failed for some unknown reason just as the final steps to restore Windows 7 were completing.
Back to the drawing board.
