About a while ago I ran chkdsk to check and recover bad sectors and fix system files and it then froze at 43% on stage 5 of 5. I left it on through out the night and I went to school and came back it was still at 43%. I then manually shut down the computer and ever since I have been trying to fix the problem. It was the second time I ran chkdsk on this pc while having windows 7 I usually run chkdsk every month or so to make sure everything is functioning right. After my problem occured I have tried so many things i have ran spinrite,I have reinstalled windows, I have tried to run chkdsk on safe mode, I have tried sfc/scannow, and chkdsk /p and all of these things did not fix the problem. Chkdsk /p was the only thing that didnt even try to fix anything because it said invalid parameter. Also when I reinstalled windows 7 on my pc then chkdksk froze at 49% on stage 5 of 5. I even ran diagnostics from the bios and I use Seagate Seatools and both diagnostics said my hard drive was perfectly fine. I also tried running chkdsk from the windows 7 cd and for some reason it completed in less than 2 hours. I then ran chkdsk from the pc and it then froze again this made me think that there had to be something wrong with my pc. So I was wondering how can I get chkdsk to complete perfectly from my pc again instead of using the windows 7 cd each time.

Right now there is 93.2GB free.
Also each time I do a full format it fails and turns the 40 GB volume to a RAW type. Later on I do a quick format and it completes and makes it a NTFS.
By the way, how are you receiving notification of my reply (Email or just whating the thread)?

I think at best its 50/50 shot. The problem is when you expend a volume Windows does not do a full format.
You can try running a full format on that 40GB partition several times in hopes of permantly fixing the problem, but first I have another question?
How much free space is available on the C: (Windows partition)?

(test G: I created because when I extended the windows volume it caused check disk to freeze so I took that 40 GB and created a volume to run check disk which ran perfectly but still freezes the windows volume when I extend it)
Do you think we can get rid of that 4 kb in the bad sectors? Check disk found 4 kb and put it in the bad sectors file. Also just reminding you check disk corrected the volume bitmap of the test volume.
