It would be nice if we got some better participation from Microsoft in these forums.  The supposed answer does not address all the issues that people have found and reported in this thread.   It should be updated.

I too found instances where you cannot create a system disk because some other software component is active and needs to be turned off (i.e. TrueCrypt) and it is disturbing to see some of these issues from an OEM installation.

I would love to provide feedback, but the URL posted above results in Page Not Found.  Perhaps our expectations are just too high for Microsoft to provide quality products, services or support?

I have the same problem.

I repair and install computers for a living. We just purchased another batch of 18 Lenovo M56e computers (Core 2 duo). Out of all these computers, all with fresh installs of Windows 7 64 bit (by fresh, I mean Windows 7 install disc and drivers, no other software).

I have made tons of restore discs over the years, and this is the first time I have had this error pop up. It's especially confusing because it's a clean install with no other software installed, but with all the drivers and updates done.

It's been driving me crazy. I think I'm going to have to reinstall this operating system again just to solve this error. I can't sell the computer like this. It has to be 100% functional.

I have not come across anything that will solve the problem (not a workaround like downloading the ISO, I could make a disc on another computer here in my shop).

I need a solution so if it happens again I can solve it quickly. It seems no matter how experienced I get with Windows, there are always these odd problems that keep popping up, problems you've never seen before and just suck your time down the Windows black hole.

I'll keep my sys out here just in case someone comes up with another idea.

Since this issue seems to be related to corrupt system files, you may try running the System File Checker to check if that resolves the issue. The following KB article gives information on how to use SFC:

I ran the SFC.  NO errors.  Pursuant to another post, I went in and changed the decimal to "." and hit enter 2x.  I am trying to create a boot disk for Windows 7 as I want to reformat my hard drive and re-install my OS from the boot disk.  But I still get the same error code: 0x80070057

I was getting the same error message as everyone else in this thread, on a home built PC running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Although I am not running TrueCrypt, I am running Boxcryptor, which encrypts files stored in "the cloud." (Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox, etc.). As soon as I stopped Boxcryptor from running, I was able to create the system rescue disc. Thanks for the tip.

wat the heck is sugarsync and wuala, can't you use Google Drive?  It's free 15gb of storage that's instantaneous and syncs with every device you own.  There's also a desktop program that puts your files on your computer so you can access them locally and syncs the changes.  AND if that's not enough for you, Google gives us it's own version of Microsoft Word, excel, etc. again... free....
