Unable to create a system repair disc 0x80070057

I found this tip on another thread and can confirm that it worked for me... if you use TrueCrypt you must unmount all of your TrueCrypt drives/volumes before trying to create a Windows 7 Repair disk.

With any drive letters assigned to TrueCrypt volumes at all, I get this error when trying to create a system repair disk:

the parameter is incorrect ( 0x80070057)

As soon as I do not have any drive letters in use by TrueCrypt, I can create a system repair disk just fine.

I love both TrueCrypt and Windows 7, but in this one instance they just don't get along.

Thank you to whoever originally posted a mention of TrueCrypt on one of these threads.  I'll try to post this note on as many of these near-identical question threads as I can in the hopes that this helps others like s/he helped me.

If you have any (ANY !!!) kind of encryption software installed and running on your machine (i.e. TrueCrypt) then you MUST explicitly stop and/or temporarily disable that SW before you attempt to create a Repair Disc using the Win7 system Repair Disc utility. Go to the Task Manager and make sure the services associated with the encryption SW are stopped.

In case of TruCrypt you must dismount all currently mounted volumes first.

It'll take care of your 0x80070057 error you get when/if you attempt to create a Repair Disc using the Win7 system Repair Disc utility.

It took me about an hour to get through all the MS so called "support" rubbish. It took me about 5-7 minutes to figure out the solution for 0x80070057 error on my own.

So the bottom line is: never waste your time trying to find solutions for Microsoft own issues on Microsoft owned "support" forums/sites. I forgot that and wasted more than an hour.

Well, i think if i had a windows 7 installation disc i would not be so anxious to get a repair disc made... so what i do to get a system repair disc with "the parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)"

·         Which method did you follow to create the recovery disc?

 

i.           Boot the system by inserting Windows 7 installation disc.

ii.         When it gets to the main setup window, click on Repair from the lower left corner.

iii.       Select Command Prompt from the main Repair menu. 

iv.        At the command prompt type in recdisc, then ENTER.

v.          You'll get the popup to choose which drive letter to create the Recovery disc to.

vi.        Have a clean DVD in the DVD drive and select start.

This should get your System repair disc created.
