Windows Vista- Can't turn on Windows Defender

I TRIED TO TURN ON WINDOW DEFENDER. IT GAVE AN ERROR 0X800705B4.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Hi tropicalvic,

Let’s follow these steps which should fix the issue.

Step 1

If you have any third party antivirus software and firewall disable them temporarily and make sure that the Windows Firewall is turned on. Then check if the issue reappears.

Step 2

  1. Open Run, and  type in services.msc then press Enter.
  2. In services window, locate Windows Defender service in the services list.
  3. Verify that the Status is Started. If the Status column is blank,

right click on the service and select Start.

4 If you get error trying to force start the Windows Defender service, try to change the Startup Type to Automatic, and then restart the computer.

    if you need to change startup programs read this information about the other methods to do that without using defender

    using msconfig read this tutorial:

    I understand what you say but it's a bit naughty don't you think, when most pc users are not experts and windows defender is the platform to disable/enable/remove startup programs etc.

    in these forums you start your own question

    read this information about defender:

    ·                         if you are using microsoft security essentials avg norton mcafee avira etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default

    microsoft security essentials has its own version of windows defender

    and other anti-virus programs use their own particular type of spyware and malware application scanner

    it is nothing to worry about and is the default action that is designed for them to do
