Windows update fails with error code 0x643

I have downloaded the recent Microsoft updates and all but one installed successfully.  The failing update was:  Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297);

with an error code of  0x643.

We tried several times to install it and it keeps failing.  It was originally the 3rd update in the list to install.  After failing the first time, it was the only one we were trying to install.  We tried it after the restart required for the other updates.

    Here's a good KB that has some steps on how to fix the 643 error (uninstall .Net, cleanup, reinstall).

    I had the same problem. I solved it very simply. I reinstalled Service Pack 1 for .Net v1.1. Then the update installed without a hitch.

    I followed your instructions, all 16 steps, and when I finally got to updating Windows, it found 2 .NET Framework updates to download and install.  I told it to install them and they both failed:

    Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

    Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (KB953300)

    I did the download and install by going to the Microsoft update site, let it figure out what updates I needed (I chose "express") and told it to install both.

    I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but...

    My computer installed the Hotfix KB953297 with no problems but now is giving the following error code:

    Error parsing c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\config\machine.configParser returned error 0xC00CE508I tried removing the Hotfix in Add/Remove Programs but I'm still getting the error.System Info: Microsoft Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2, HP Pavilion Pentium DAny ideas?  Thanks, Tessa
