I purchased my laptop now for about 6 months and the most annoying part is that there is never a low battery notification before my laptop hibernates. It has never shown up once.
The battery meter is active and shown in my system tray. I have gone into power options, changed advanced battery options for low, critical, and reserve levels as well as turned ON low battery notification. In system tray properties > notification area > customize > I have also selected "show icon and notifications".
The windows 7 microsoft website as well as many other forums only suggest to do these 2 things. I HAVE done these two things, as they were the original settings when I bought this laptop new...what else can I do? Is there a patch, download, anything?! I would rather not have to install 3rd party software. I would just like my laptop to function properly. I am not a heavy gamer or student, I just use my laptop to surf the web and watch videos. I also use free Avira antivirus, if any of this is important to why a battery notification won't show up.
Edit: My friend and I bought the exact same computer on the same day. His shows notifications and mine doesn't, so I know it's possible.

Just open your
"control panel"
and then "power option" then
"change advance power settings"
there select the profile you want to active( power saver ,high performance etc.)
Then scroll down to "battery" expand it and find "low battery notification" and turn "on" for both "on battery" and "plugged in" and you will done.
Note :- not necessary to turn it on for "plugged in"

Exactly the same problem, missing power-like shut off, simply, as if someone, at once, unplugged the battery from the rear. Better not to mention data loss problem for hard disks loosing their power supply.
We all hope for a relevant answer in order to restore the dignity to our machines running Windows 10.
this is very helpful post, thanks. BUT it still doesn't help with my problem..i never hear that notification sounds when playing games and it hibernates when i don't react, logically. isn't there any way to change the sound or make it louder?
also that window with notification doesn't show as since i play on fullscreen..
So still no resolution to this problem within the latest iteration of the Windows O/S. Its a shame that M/S don't seem to want to resolve a simple problem that appears to affect a large number of their captive users. I appreciate that not all user systems are equal and that there may be specific hardware/driver combinations that throw a spanner into the mix but for M/S to not acknowledge this and put their hand to not being perfect is a fly in the ointment. They do suggest upping the battery reserve level to copensate for older batteries but....
