“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.

i use a Windows Vista on a Compaq dock and i commonly get this problem but about 1/5 times it never recovers and my moniter get s the status of no computer on/active so its yellow light turns on. i restart and it is fine but i do not like to manuel restart in the maner i am forced to due to the saving complications.

i use AtiX6500 and this computer is always cold to touch, not below the standard but the fans i have installed on it are very powerful, and it has more than enogh power, everything in it is new and this is the ONLY problem this PC has.

Are You sure then You've got latest drivers?

You can get them from Ati site here. Just click there on Motherboard Integrated Video - Full Catalyst Software (or invidual there You may change english language for other) and choose Win7 32 bit.

There is now 9.9 version driver.

Before installations of new driver remember to uninstall old one first.

This error usually means then Your motherbaord is overheated. Normally there will be BSOD but Ati software react on that problem by reseting graphic card.

Check Your temps with Lavalys Everest or HwMonitor .

If temps will be to high use compressed air such as this and clean out all the vents with it. Laptop must be switched off and without battery.

Minimum once per year I always recommend manual clean of heat sink and fan. You may try to do it also if compressed air won't help.

How to do it check Your service documentation if it's avaible on Lenovo site. Do it only on Your own if You can do it and You if don't have warranty on it.

If You still have warranty don't clean it manually on Your own because You will loose it.

This happens to me too on my new HP laptop.  I have noticed however that is only happens when I am on the internet and although that is usually IE as that is what I used, I tried Firefox but the same thing happened in that. often but not always happens when I am trying to watch videos.

I think the program is problematic on windows is the desktop window manager. This program can be found in c:\windows\system32\dwm.exe. This program takes the allocation of more performance to be run properly.

1. Open your Nvidia Control Panel
2. Go to Manage 3D Settings. You will see 2 tabs, Global Settings and Program Settings.
3. In Program Settings, add dwm.exe (Desktop Windows Manager) from C:\Windows\System32

    directory and set Power Management Mode becomes Prefer maximum performance for this

    program.

And yes, your video card is now idling at 65 C. Provide better cooler for your notebook or PC.

I was wondering WHY ATI did not realize this simple SOLUTION. I have been suffering for mounths.
