If your computer is having problems playing sound, try using the Playing Audio troubleshooter to fix the problem. It checks for common problems with your volume settings, your sound card or driver, and your speakers or headphones.

To open the Playing Audio troubleshooter:

1.       Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.

2.        In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting.

3.       Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio playback.

4.       Follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.

    Hi pusfactory,

    I have a MacBook Pro purchased in Fall 2009.  After installing Windows 7 Ultimate I get no sound on the PC OS side of the system.  The headphone receptical has a red light that stays on all the time while in the Windows side of the system.  When I reboot into the Mac OS (Snow Leopard) sound works just fine and there is no red light in the headphone receptical.  Neither Mac tech support nor the Windows tech support have an answer and both point their fingers at the other tech support group.  This is not the kind of technical support that I need to solve this problem!

    I've tried everything mentioned above.  Windows Media Player shows everything it's supposed to.  I try to play a song, watch as it starts to play (the little blue thingy starts across), but I can't hear diddly squat.  I checked the Microsoft help line, and they want to charge me money to assist in fixing the problem.  What a rip.  This thing is going out to window, if something doesn't get squared away SOON.

    You are right, I tried realtek and win7 I don't know if dell has anything I tried downloading some of their audio driver still no sound.

    I am ready to blow mine up and get a lap top I paid 1600 for this dell and it crashed 5 times with Vista, had it changed over to Xp and it still is a mess I think I got a dud.
