Why is my windows media player not burning any of my blank Cds

for the past 3 hours i have been working on tryiong to burn cds off of windows media player. i have CD-R discs which is music discs which i never had any problems with until now. then after a while i tried using a DVD+R CD to record it as a sata CD but that did not seem to work either. it read the CD but it did not let me burn. it said how many mins it had remained but when i added music to the burn list it never moved or the burn now button ever came up for me to click it. it was gray. PLEASE HELP ME

Hi RevDraiford,

A.      Are you able to burn CD’s using other programs?

B.      Are you getting any error while you try to burn CD?

C.      From when are you facing this issue?

If you bring up windows media player, then make a burn list, then insert disk to burn the music it will gray out the burn button. But if you insert the disk then bring up media player it will not be grayed out.

To burn an audio CD do the following:

1.     Click the Burn tab, click the arrow below the Burn tab, and then click Audio CD (this is the default choice).

2.     Insert a blank CD-R disc into your CD burner.

3.     If necessary, click the Clear List pane button to remove all items from the previous burn list.

4.     Find the items in your library that you want to copy to the audio CD.

5.     To create a burn list, drag items from the Details pane (the pane in the middle of the library) to the List pane (the pane on the right side of the library).

    All is not well if system restore created more problems. You haven't confirmed your own OS... Vista (as the original thread) or W7? I understand your annoyance but I suspect from what you have said that the CD problem is more a symptom, and you are probably going to need more technical help than I can offer. As this is an old thread I suggest you post a new question in the 'Update and Recovery' forum for your OS detailing the CD issue along with the problems that system restore caused. As you don't appear to have initiated a question before, do this by clicking on the 'Participate' link (top left-hand of page below 'MS Community').  One of the 'update' experts is more likely to be able to help figure this out. I sincerely hope you are able to resolve this. - Ric.

    System restore made no difference.  In fact it stuffed a lot of other programs up. I had to reverse the restore.  Still left with the original problem. One week can burn music to discs, next week cannot. Tried using file manager but it just opens media player to complete the task. My daughter who is running windows 8 like me took my disc and my files on my thumb drive and burned them. This issue is really annoying as I soon will be needing to write photos to disc for a client and am expecting the same problem.

    Hi - if your problem seems to have arisen since the most recent updates, try a system restore back to the point before the updates (if you use automatic updating that will need to be temporarily disabled via control panel - turn automatic updating on or off). You can then check if your discs are recognized again. (If they are not, it's unlikely to be an update problem.)

    Also what OS are you on, and when updating have you selected 'only important updates' or do you install 'optional' as well? The optional ones do cause problems sometimes. Thanks, Ric.

    My menu doesnt show the options you mention.  In fact my whole media player has changed since updates last week.

    Discs I burnt music to a week ago, I'm now told the same blank discs arent compatible with my drive.
