Why is my windows media player not burning any of my blank Cds

for the past 3 hours i have been working on tryiong to burn cds off of windows media player. i have CD-R discs which is music discs which i never had any problems with until now. then after a while i tried using a DVD+R CD to record it as a sata CD but that did not seem to work either. it read the CD but it did not let me burn. it said how many mins it had remained but when i added music to the burn list it never moved or the burn now button ever came up for me to click it. it was gray. PLEASE HELP ME

Hi RevDraiford,

A.      Are you able to burn CD’s using other programs?

B.      Are you getting any error while you try to burn CD?

C.      From when are you facing this issue?

If you bring up windows media player, then make a burn list, then insert disk to burn the music it will gray out the burn button. But if you insert the disk then bring up media player it will not be grayed out.

To burn an audio CD do the following:

1.     Click the Burn tab, click the arrow below the Burn tab, and then click Audio CD (this is the default choice).

2.     Insert a blank CD-R disc into your CD burner.

3.     If necessary, click the Clear List pane button to remove all items from the previous burn list.

4.     Find the items in your library that you want to copy to the audio CD.

5.     To create a burn list, drag items from the Details pane (the pane in the middle of the library) to the List pane (the pane on the right side of the library).

    I have followed all of the above instructions but Windows Media Player continues to ask me to insert a blank disc in the CD Drive. I have re formatted this disc (cd-rw) but windows media player recognizing that it is blank.

    I had the same problem, WMP seemed to write to disc sealed disc but couldn't read the disc.

    I found a partial workround.

    In WMP , hover the cursor over "burn" and left click on the little black arrowhead, in the drop down box

    you are probably defaulted to "audio", check the "data" instead, then burn. It seems possible to burn a whole lot more tracks this way.

    Being data I think each track is narrower so I was doubtful about the reproduction but I really can't tell any difference, which seems more bang for your buck.

    It will appear in WMP as a thin line near the top but to play individual tracks I have to go to

    START-MY COMPUTER-DRIVE D and click to display the tracks there.

    The disc will not play in the car though, which is where I wanted it

    There is still something screwed but at least it's not the PC

    Sometimes when a program is updated it throws it.

    My version of WMP is V.11.0.5721.5280 and I use Win XP

    I'm going to look around for a previous version, this shouldn't just happen.

    I will try but that shouldnt be the problem with only a weeks difference between it working and not working, burning the same type of files I have before on the same discs I've been using.  Forget the music files, my photo files should have burnt. They have a 4 digit identifier with none of the characters you mention.

    Windows Media Player is kinda old and it goes by some old programming laws which is not to include things like ; % & * ! _ - = + ( ) {} [ ]  etc.  Do you get what I'm saying?  Make sure the titles and author and descriptions all of it do not have anything except numbers or letters.  Keep it brief.  I go so far as to only use upper and lowercase letters and spaces.  I don't even use numbers but they should work.  So change your info on your stuff before you burn it.  Note that Windows Media Player's cache file will remember the old info but that doesn't matter.  It will burn it okay if you get rid of any characters that are not letters.
