Windows Media Player encountered a problem while creating or saving the playlist.

Since last week I cannot create a playlist in WMP 12 on windows 7.  Also cannot rip cd's. MS has no information regarding this problem. Worked o.k. before last week when updates were installed.  Has there been a way found to remove WMP 12 and revert to WMP 11?  Or should I abandon Windows 7 and return to VISTA?  I have done what I know to do so far, including restoring computer to an earlier date.  Still does not work right.

Microsoft... Please fix WMP 12.

Hi Trakai,

I would recommend you to run the Windows Media Player settings troubleshooter and check.

If the issue exists uninstall and re-install the Windows Media Player. Here is how.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

Step 1.

Uninstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the computer

Step 2.

Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the Computer.

    Apparently, over 2 years later this problem still occurs (like last week).  I tried the on line solutions, but none worked.  I called Microsoft  who referred me to Dell where I purchased this computer less than 7 months ago.  $250 to have a tech solve the problem; I paid @ $500 for the computer.  Needless to say, I told them to fly a kite.  I am not tech savvy, so I spent @ 5 hour on the web with one type media player or another, but finally found and settled on SongBird, which is a free download, and so far it has performed beautifully and appears to be able to do everything WMP can do, particularly does well at syncing up with MP3.  2 years and Microsoft doesn't even acknowledge this type of major malfunction?  What arrogance - I wonder how long they can get away with it?

    BTW, Kudos for WMPP! I use it solely because it allows me to play and pause with the spacebar, which all good media players should always do! :)

    ChuckRenner: exactly, this is a known issue with WMP itself and is not caused by WMP Plus! (at least not as far as I know). The fact that it started occurring after installing the plug-in might have been a coincidence.

    Also, the error at startup occurred because WMP Plus! was hitting the same error as when you were manually creating a playlist in WMP.

    I also have had problems with media player not creating playlists, and it was a problem with the music library as airwater suggests.  After installing Win8 it, if I looked in to the Music library it was trying to use UNC paths to access the locations (e.g. \<COMPUTERNAME>\Users&lt;USERNAME>\Music)

    I had a similar issue, some of my libraries were using UNC file names as well (instead of a local folder).  Worse yet, the paths they were showing were for a computer that is no longer a part of my network.  I'm not sure how they got there, but I suspect it was a side effect of the "Windows Easy Transfer" I used to migrate from a Windows XP Home netbook to this (brand new) Windows 7 Professional notebook.  I no longer suspect "Windows Media Player Plus!" to have been part of the source of the problem.
