Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings

Recently, I have noticed a small caution triangle appearing with my network icon on the task bar. When I right click and troubleshoot, it comes with this message. Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings. My internet has been very slow lately, but I'm wondering if this is a problem with my network? or is this something that my ISP has to fix?

(This post is intended for all reporting the problem)

Check Internet Options (from Control Panel or Internet Explorer Tools / Options  /Connections Tab / LAN Settings and make sure Proxy Server is unchecked even if using Firefox.  Check settings in Firefox in Tools / Options /Advanced Connections / Settings  (should be either use system proxy settings or no proxy).

Check for malware especially using malwarebytes.

Try  these two commands in that order in an elevated command prompt.  Do the first one first then reboot and try.  If still bad try the second.

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ipv4 reset

If these don't help, please post the output of an ipconfig /all command

I had the same problem this morning--couldn't connect on one computer but could on the other.  Got the same message about not being able to detect the proxy settings.  However, I used System Restore to reverse some changes that had happened during the night and that corrected the problem.

    Anyway, my wife's PC running 8.1 with a WiFi USB adaptor is now doing this, worked fine yesterday and nothing changed or installed.

    I have done everything in this thread to no avail.

    System Restore = No Change

    Run CMD as Admin and winsock & ipv4 (get the same error as the user who posted a pic of it did - access denied) = No Change

    Reset Device via disable / re-enable = No Change

    Tried different USB ports and 2 different WiFi dongles = No Change

    Scanned with Malwarebytes = No Change

    This is just getting ridiculous now and this type of issue should never happen in our age of connectivity.

    I am pretty well versed in computers when it comes to both hardware and software troubleshooting however I am even at a loss for how this happened and how to correct it.

    Any help is appreciated!

    I have been having the same problem off and on for quite awhile now.  The problem in my case seems to be with my internet provider having server  problems, performing system upgrades, and in some cases, the high speed connection between my location and the Telco central office.  All my problem seems to be directed back to the internet service provide.  FYI, I didn't have this problem when I was with AT&T ISDN service, but since switching to Comcast, I have been experiencing this problem at least once or twice a week.  I have thoroughly checked my connection equipment, including the Comcast provider modem, all my internal wiring, and my router.  Everything checks OK, and after resetting all the equipment, the problem usually continues, clearing on its own sometime later.  This can only be a Telco problem.  I am contemplating returning to my old service provider.  It was slower, but at least it was dependable.

    i face same problem too even i try those two commands but still , when i troubleshoot it, it detected the same error "your window cant automatically detect this network proxy settings".

    It's not like i could not connect to the wifi at all but when i play online games , it constantly have high ping and low ping which sometimes will disconnect and it will connect it after few second constantly. Wish u could help me with this problem, Thank you .
