Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings

Recently, I have noticed a small caution triangle appearing with my network icon on the task bar. When I right click and troubleshoot, it comes with this message. Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings. My internet has been very slow lately, but I'm wondering if this is a problem with my network? or is this something that my ISP has to fix?

(This post is intended for all reporting the problem)

Check Internet Options (from Control Panel or Internet Explorer Tools / Options  /Connections Tab / LAN Settings and make sure Proxy Server is unchecked even if using Firefox.  Check settings in Firefox in Tools / Options /Advanced Connections / Settings  (should be either use system proxy settings or no proxy).

Check for malware especially using malwarebytes.

Try  these two commands in that order in an elevated command prompt.  Do the first one first then reboot and try.  If still bad try the second.

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ipv4 reset

If these don't help, please post the output of an ipconfig /all command

I had the same problem this morning--couldn't connect on one computer but could on the other.  Got the same message about not being able to detect the proxy settings.  However, I used System Restore to reverse some changes that had happened during the night and that corrected the problem.

    Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Every day, I get about 3000 critical error messages and my internet connection is flaky. The most recent issues I'm having is with Bonjour.

    You may need to do a complete scan of your hard drive.  I used Trinity Rescue Toolkit and it totally aced the issued, even freed up 15 GB of space which I had no idea I had. Highly recommended.

    I'LL give that a try. My PC is hardwired into my router, but I also have a wireless AC adapter. Sometimes I can get online and sometimes I can't. It happens no matter which way I connect. I can connect to my WiFi with no problem, but something keeps preventing me from getting online while every other device in my house connects with no problem. The odd thing is that I can go into the resource monitor where it shows which files are using what percentage of the CPU, the hard drive, the network, etc., and it lists a couple of files that are using a good portion of my bandwidth. When I try accessing the location of these files, it tells me access denied. 

    Yesterday, I was able to boot up into safe mode with networking, and I had no problems. I got lucky at one point when I rebooted it came up to the menu of booting into safe mode or not. I can't access that menu on my own because when my PC is booting and when it gets to the point where you press F8 for the boot menu, all that pops up is an option to boot using different drives, which is coking from my BIOS. I need to figure out how to disable that in my BIOS. This is so aggravating.
