Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

    1. microsoft is two cheap to pay for bluray licensing but makes billons on their **** retentive licensing
    2. a primary motive is that in windows 8 9 10 you will possibly be baited to buy new os like carrot in front of a frigging donkey concept to get BD native MCE support or like the long overdue QAM support possibly the 5 years overdue MCE PIP why havew G damn 2 3 4 tuners and not be able to display all on a large screen I can sure as heck do it from hauppauges win tv 7,2 by adding -multi to target line in shortcut on desktop each with its own teletext and independent volume control however the drawback is that hauppauge does event timing or live viewing via a web based titan.com tv guide, not integral like MCE

    Microsoft simply drags their butt on the ground so they don't have to do any significant engineering in new os releases but its mainly that baiting with long overdue functionality in new os releases to drive sales.

    It never ceases to amaze me how microsoft can stack **** higher faster than cpu processing capabilites increase, always trying to stack too much on camels back, this is a ploy to drive hardware sales which drives their software sales microsoft is simply assinine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    That link that Anita M ($MSFT support engineer) keeps reiterating in her posts, has to be the dumbest link ever in terms of answering the question at bay!  And more so, its now nearly 1.5 years past her first answer to this question, and still, no solution from $MSFT...really???? 2011...really?!

    In 2011, I can't use my Windows7 OS and built in player to play a BluRay as native??? Serious???? Anyone think of having a version of the OS that does, or is thinking outside the box difficult here?!

    I just found out the hard way. Despite all my friends advising to go with linux i purchased a copy of Windows 7 ($200) only to discover that I cannot play blurays without risking an additional investment in a 3rd party software or going with some sketchy program.

    This is really disappointing and i am flat out wasting my time typing this because microsoft doesn't care. Get with it and invest some of the hard earned money we invested into you to make our products work the way you have promised.

    Eventually this will catch up though. You can leave your consumers high and dry for so long before they realize to go to a better alternative...only time until google makes and open source OS for free to integrate with android...then the tables will turn.
