Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

well, we could rip the blu-ray movie off of the disc with a blu-ray ripper, then play the movie file with VLC. i always do that

i don't get it when all you complain that windows media center doesnt support blu-ray disc (for windows 7)... YES IT DOES!!! it supports every single one of my blu-ray disc; and  i have never had a problem with it at all... i absolutely love it!!

You bought a Pioneer Blu Ray drive with software from Cyberlink for Vista that doesn't work on Windows 7 and somehow you are mad at Microsoft???

Why aren't you complaining to Cyberlink/Pioneer that their product isn't upward compatible (or have you even checked to see if there is free/cheap upgrade).

But, that $649 you spent for a computer stand, desk, and chair to play Blu Ray movies is definately Microsoft's fault :o).

BTW, if you buy a Mac, you'll have the same problem and it will cost more money to fix, as they don't support Blu Ray either.

Yes, yes I am. Because, I stopped, and called all involved, except Mr. Gates of course. I called where I bought it, Newegg, and am still awaiting a reply, so we know how good their customer service is. I also called Pioneer, and they also passed the buck, (but very informative) Pioneer informed me that my unit, came bare bones and did not come with any software, the vendors ship/package with software. I then called Cyberlink, and they tried and tried, and Cyberlinks Power DVD8 will not install on my 64 bit system. But, luckily, I have an old Vaio that is a 32 bit and it installed perfectly. 

See, that is the thing, I could play Blue Ray on Vista, to which I paid for. I upgraded to 64 bit windows home premium (7), and then there is a problem. How is that not Microsofts problem ? It installs on the 32 bit unit (ALSO 7). I have yet to play a blue ray, as I have to remove the player from the 64 bit unit and put it in my 32 bit Vaio. But, just that it installed is the key. It installed, so I know it will play. Funny thing is the other two software items installed ok on the 64 bit, the burner and the other, whatever it is, I don't know as I am not home, I am enjoying the beach. But, when I get back, I will move my Blue Ray Burner to my old 32 bit Sony.

The above paragraph should be a big red flag and assistance at resolution, that there is some silly thing dating back to the old office 2000 issue, with items not installing/security glitch, on windows 7, and blu ray media install issue. ( error 1625 )

Hey Microsoft, take a look at that, and please fix it for those that would like it. I mean, just the fact that it is Blu Ray, and it did work on Vista ( which we bought ) then not install or work on Windows 7 ( which we also bought ) is reason enough. It's not like I am trying to get a floppy disc to install, sheesh...

I will do the extra work on my own, moving my blu ray player from my newer 64 bit unit to my older 32 bit unit, and then enjoy my movies on my home network, but also turn my VHS to DVD's with a far better than the windows mediocrity center that is botched with the 7 package.

( that's a whole nother problem there - having wmc recognize a vhs p[layer with no antenna, as well as having component connections is possibly a whole nother issue, hopefully, the Cyberlink software install will fix the compon ent issue, or I will have to trick it with a set top box running through it - funny enough, I can only find easy ways to spend more money using windows 7 media center, not actually useful - which is yet another customer chaser awayer )

BLU RAY will win, admit it, then fix your issues, and / or get us all a nice numerical update patch ;>)

I hope this helps someone, as I went threw a buncha stuff to get my issue resolved. It's not really resolved, I just was lucky enough to figure away around windows 7 64 bit, and windows media center issues I was having on my old 32 bit unit, to which I won't go in great detail, but just basically having all kinds of issues turning old vhs to dvd, I know, I know, that doesn't help your advertisers MS, but some of us actually want to save a buck here and there rather than spend monies on everything you bundled with windows mediocrity centre )

Cyberlink, I tip my hat to as well, for valiantly trying to resolve my issue.

They failed as well, but my curiosity at trying to install the software on my old 32 bit system, and everyones issues and postings also helped me resolve this.

I know it's a window, and they do get dirty or break from time to time, maybe trying plexiglas will help ?

That's precisely why we need OS built-in support for blu-ray, so we don't have to rely on third-party drivers, codecs or players, and why I'll rant about MS (or Apple if I were a Mac user) instead of about these manufacturers whose business is mostly hardware, not software.

I am fine with making IE and WMP optional, like it was done in Europe (although they didn't sell any of these naked OS boxes), but when you bundle a media player in the Ultimate edition for a higher price, it makes sense to ship a fully fledged media player that supports all established standards. Blu-ray has been around for years now, and it will probably be supported by Windows 8, that's why this situation is so stupid. Only by the time Windows 8 or 9 comes along, the new 1TB disc or whatever blu-ray successor/update will probably not be supported... :(

Yeah, sorry about overreacting at the Mac answer, the "we should all switch to MAC's" statement requested indeed your answer!  ^-^

Microsoft is usually good at usability for software design, too bad they're pretty poor at it when it requires strategical/political decisions.
