Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

    I agree with Roleary and SpyderCanopus. I bought Windows 7 for my Media centre PC thinking that it would finally support Blu-Ray Playback. We all know Blu-Ray is becoming the new DVD so we would expect a multi-billion dollar company to integrate Blu-Ray playback in a modern OS.

    And as SpyderCanopus said, BitLocker is such a waste of money. Most the people who have Vista Ultimate dont even know what it does and why they should use it.

    M$ wasted so much money on making HD-DVD Drives for their Xbox 360(when we all knew Blu-Ray was the way forward). What were they thinking?! It would have been a better spend if they sorted out this Blu-Ray playback nonsense.

    I am very displeased as well.  Microsoft made a big mistake here.  Will not recommend Windows 7 unless you remedy this.  I am a solution provider for your products.

    Edit: Could have at least included it with Ultimate edition.  Bit Locker is not worth the extra $150, but blu-ray support might be.

    Windows Media Player does not have native support to Blu-ray .m2ts files. Many people use AnyDVD HD to remove BD protections firstly and then play .m2ts streams with PowerDVD, or convert them via an M2TS converter to othet formats that compatible with the mutimedia players installed on their PC. Also, if you dislike using this complicated method, you can directly Google for a Blu-ray ripper, and then rip BD files to your media player workable format. Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper is such a program, several friends of mine recommended it to me, they said it does not have video and audio out of sync issues, now i'm considering to have it, hope it  helps.
