Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    Hi all... new here.  I just got a new Dell Studio XPS with a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, and I have the same problem. 

    I haven't read everything above, but I get that there isn't a fix for this yet.

    When you check off the "Listen to this device" option, you can still record an instrument, but it's obviously useless to record without hearing yourself.

    The main question is,   Is there a way to listen to the Line In and Mic while the "Listen to this device" option is checked off?

    I was able to do this for the past 12 years with all my other computers with ease.

    It is quit frustrating that Windows 7 is messing such a simple thing up.

    Come on MS send out a patch already.

    I'm using windows 7 with the I3 processor and I'm having the same latency issue as others - the line in has a delay to it that was not there present when using XP - I've tried all the fixes I see here with no progress - it appears my only option is to load XP on my computer as well and use it for recording. Hopefully this will a 7 SP fix -

    Do you have the PCI or PCI Express Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio?

    Please run dxdiag and save a log. Then post this information so we can see your computer and audio hardware information.
