Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    Hi,

    For those of you that are having this issue, please run dxdiag, save the log and post a link to it. Please also include whether it is specific to a recording application, or if it happens with any.

    There will be a delay with the new "listen to this device" feature and is best if used with portable music player type devices. It will work with a microphone, but there will be the delay. Note however that if you want to record through a mic or another device, you do not need this enabled.

    I "fixed" my problem by re-installing XP. Everything is good now, except that Windows7 is a waste. Amazing how they keep getting these basic things wrong. Why do they keep piling on useless ____ gimmicks that no one gives a ____ about? I don't want my audio routed through some useless 3D effects engine you stupid douchebags, just record the damned line-in signal and get your marketing ____ out of my face. I hope to god Microsoft goes bankrupt, because we don't need them anymore. I'm back in XP, and there's actually nothing from Vista or Win7 that I really miss. That's tragic - ten years and they haven't done anything significant, except try to copy Apple's UI look.

    Well so far no good for me either.  Yup...just invested over $2K in a computer with all the trimmings.  Win 7.  You sure look pretty.  But I can't even record a video in Camtasia and hear my voice without a huge delay of nearly 1/2 second.
