Hi,

When i try to take the updates, its throwing the error 8024A000.

Not to able get wats the reason

Help me out

The Windows Update Error Code 8024A000 means WU E AU NOSERVICE. This is translated as AU was unable to service incoming AU calls.

I would like for you to perform general Troubleshooting steps for Windows Update.

General Windows Update Troubleshooting

The following outlines how to stop services pertaining to Windows Update, rename system folders, register related DLL files, and then restart the previously mentioned services. This troubleshooting generally applies to all Windows Update related issues.

Stopping services pertaining to Windows Update

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2. If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue.

3. At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

net stop wuauserv net stop bits

net stop cryptsvc

4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update

1. At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

2. ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old

3. ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Registering DLL’s pertaining to Windows Update

1. Please copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT

2. If saved correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file which has two blue cogs as its icon.

4. Now please check for updates using Windows Update to see if the issue has been resolved.

Your answer is just amazing.. it works on me. i did the job starting and stopping wuauserv, bits and cryptsvcalready **** but it wasn't works.The main thing is Registering DLL’s pertaining and Renaming folders pertaining . its great.

I was having the same head scratching issue updating a Vista box from the factory load to SP2.

The online help returned nothing, but Google was my friend.

Procedure works fine.

Step2 failed with a "permission denied", but the file did not exist.

(ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old)

If this is result of you changing you harddrive for example from 250 t0 500G the these are the steps.

download the latest intel rapid storage driver first from intel.com http://www.drivermanager.com/en/drivers.php?Brand=Intel&Logo=intel&gclid=CNfhq8qt8LQCFVCd4AodO2kA0w or search for for your computer model in google and download from the link provided install and restart your computer.

If its [sic] windows vista or before, download sp2 manually and install make sure you know know the operating system and whether 32/64 bit. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Learn-how-to-install-Windows-Vista-Service-Pack-2-SP2
PLEASE NOTE:

I installed a hard drive of the SAME SIZE that was originally in this Toshiba Satellite Laptop (320 G) and had this same AU error code. This was due to a physical shock that made the hard drive reliability questionable. (it actually fell 3 feet off a counter and had no observable physical damage - dodged a bullet that day!)

I tried all the other fixes as they appeared in this thread (it was much shorter then) to no avail, though it is undertermined if any helped since the same error appeared, although at times it changed codes.

One of the fixes required SP2. I downloaded SP2, but I was UNABLE to install SP2 Manually - another error appeared when trying. I searched one or two other error codes in this overall process. At one point I tried one of the Microsoft "FixIt" executables.

I also had the "Photo Gallery unable to save image" error.

Then I saw the first Intel Rapid Driver post.

Instaling the Intel driver fixed the AU and Photo Gallery problems.

It has been working flawlwsly for perhaps 5-7 months.
