so yeah you've probably gathered my problem from my title.

i have an integrated intel graphics chip (interestingly enough the intel control pane,l through which i used to control the majority of the devices functions, did not survive the upgrade... it is nowhere to be found)

so i've updated the drivers, and checked the playback devices, and my hdmi cables are plugged in

i get video but no audio, and am not sure i am just missing something simple.

eitherway i've done a lot of searching and have yet to find an answer any help would be much appreciated!

Hello spedlifeshow,

The issue here can be one of several issues, the following may apply:

  • The HDMI graphics card may support HDMI Video, but may not support HDMI Audio
  • You may need to set the HDMI audio device as the default sound device
  • You may need to update your HDMI video card drivers for your version of Windows
  • If your HDMI video card does not support audio, you may need to connect additional audio cables between the PC and TV

For the steps for some of these issues see the following No sound tutorial (look on the Check your Hardware tab under HDMI cables).

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/no-sound-in-windows

Hope this helps

LD.

Drivers can be tricky sometimes, try this go to device manager and uninstall the driver then using the drivers that you downloaded from intel install them and check the results.

Let me know if this helps.

    Hello All,

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers forums.  I suggest you go to the manufactures web site and download the Windows 7 drivers.  It they do not have Windows 7 drivers try using the drivers for Vista.  Most hardware and drivers that worked with Vista will work with Windows 7.  Windows 7 is still in Release Candidate.  The current release is for testing purposes.  All the features and other options have not been fully program and released yet.  It is the responsibility of the manufacture to provide drivers for their hardware.   Thank you for your time and efforts in evaluating Windows 7.

Thanks for using the Answers Forum. Please let us know how this works out.

I have the same problem.  I connect my Dell XPS 1530 laptop to my Samsung hdtv and I get video but no audio.  The sound controller says that the hdmi output is working, but there is no sound.  Spent the last couple of days installing new drivers and to no avail.  Samsung claims that its a problem with my video card???  They say that my model of Samsung tv can only handle pcm over hdmi and that i should check with my video card manufacturer.  The setup that I use to connect my tv with my laptop has worked flawlessly for about a year and the audio problem cropped up only two days ago.  It may be a compatibility issue with my tv because I used the same hdmi cable with a different hdtv and the audio worked.  Please help...I am out of ideas.
