so yeah you've probably gathered my problem from my title.

i have an integrated intel graphics chip (interestingly enough the intel control pane,l through which i used to control the majority of the devices functions, did not survive the upgrade... it is nowhere to be found)

so i've updated the drivers, and checked the playback devices, and my hdmi cables are plugged in

i get video but no audio, and am not sure i am just missing something simple.

eitherway i've done a lot of searching and have yet to find an answer any help would be much appreciated!

Hello spedlifeshow,

The issue here can be one of several issues, the following may apply:

  • The HDMI graphics card may support HDMI Video, but may not support HDMI Audio
  • You may need to set the HDMI audio device as the default sound device
  • You may need to update your HDMI video card drivers for your version of Windows
  • If your HDMI video card does not support audio, you may need to connect additional audio cables between the PC and TV

For the steps for some of these issues see the following No sound tutorial (look on the Check your Hardware tab under HDMI cables).

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/no-sound-in-windows

Hope this helps

LD.

Had the same problem.  I have a sony vaio VGN laptop.  Just a week ago they released an updated driver to the video card that fix the no sound out put through the hdmi.

Here is the link that solved my problem:

welll, guys its done.. i got it worked after frustrating spending couple of hrs to figure wht was wrng. though pure try and error method.

    well,

in empty space of playback devices right click and use the option to show all disabled devices, it popped up with digital output HDMI.

now in the properties of this driver i saw the driver which did stated tht it works fine but then i saw the name of sound driver company.

in my case the sound card was of sigmatel but the company named is IDT.

went to IDT website and there i downloaded the high definition audio driver from there.

after that i again saw the playback devices and there voila !!! the digital HDMI output option was there > again right click and set as default communication device

now it works jst awesome and as stated somewhere that u need revert back to original settings and all , u dnt need to do tht, this takes as 2 different output options so no conflicting outputs or so.

now i can say windows 7 rocks..!!

    thnx all.

This is not a problem with your system or drivers guys.  Its a flaw with Windows 7.  I was running Vista with my laptop outputting Video / Audio to my TV and it worked great.  I upgraded to Windows 7 RC1 and the sound doesnt work (video is fine).  Looks like we are all stuck with PC speakers or headphones until they put the real version of Windows 7 out.  When I select the HDMI audio output, things like Windows media player / itunes wont even play tracks.  The second I hit speakers / headphones, both programs fire up and play.

also to further clarify things... this problem is in reference to connecting the computer to an hd tv.

i have the intel integrated 965; i was running vista, and everything worked fine then, it showed the hdmi device in the playback devices

now i have nothing besides the sigmatel pc speakers in the playback devices
