my num lock keeps shutting itself off by itself can i stop this

Back up the registry**http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry**

a.    Go to start and type regedit.exe.

b.    Navigate to HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.

c.    You'll see an entry on the right called InitialKeyboardIndicators. The "usual" default value is 0. Double click on this entry and change the value to 2.

Note: As you do not have this, you will need to create a key manually. Right click on “Keyboard”-> click New-> Key-> Name it as InitialKeyboardIndicators. Double-click onInitialKeyboardIndicatorsandset its value data to 2.

d.    Close registry editor.

Restart the computer. The issue should be fixed by now.

Hi Divya,

This works until the next time I restart the laptop all my windows updates are up to date. The "insert" key also randomly switches on.

I speed type so can be typing for several minutes before I realise the problem and then have to retype the document.

This is becoming so bad I cant work productively any more. I see from the internet that thousands of people have this problem. Can I switch to a reliable operating system or a different hardware manufacturer, I have a lenovo and a surface pro and it happens on both.

Please can microsoft take the resolution of this problem seriously for all users and provide a perminent FIX.

Just FYI,

Make sure you shut down the PC, not just restarting.

For me if I shut down and turn it back on the problem always persists...

I tried  "2147483650"  as you suggested but unfortunately it isn't working for me.

When it first booted up it was enabled but as soon as I typed a letter key to begin my password, the light went off again immediately.

I noticed this same behavior on all values that I have tried.

I am starting to believe there is NO solution to this problem.

It's really annoying though.

I have windows 10 and I changed my registry from "2147483648"  to "2147483650" about a week ago and it has worked like a charm.  My number lock is always enabled now.  Thanks!
