While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

I recognise this problem because I'm going through it right now. The key to this problem is the NVNET55.NDI in the listing, meaning the motherboard is using the MCP55 driver for the network card, AND I'm willing to bet a dollar bill that the board is using an Atheros L1 integrated NIC. From XP Pro 32-bit to Win Vista Ultimate 64-bit to Win 7 Pro, I always have teething problems with this NIC.
The problem occurs when the device the NIC is connected to sends a sustained stream of data back to the NIC stating it has reached max. upload (from device to internet). Instead of throttling, the NIC driver crashes.
Simple fix, honestly, buy a PCI-E Gigabit NIC from Walmart or Best Buy for $30, in essence because I'm finding that in Win 7 I may not be able to get the NIC to stabilise.
Sorry to have solved the problem by recommending a walmart purchase, but the MCP55 chipset, particularly combined with the Atheros integrated NIC is a wooden nickel.

Thanks to the one who found out that Mcaffee was the issue i was able to solve the gateway problem by uninstalling Mcaffee.

after 3 days of being without internet and trying every idea on here i get to the end and read about mcafee

deleted mcafee and all is good!

Just had this problem and finally found a solution: Disable your firewall (McAfee is what we have). The internet works right away. Then you can re enable your firewall.
