While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

Just fixed a Dell Inspiron by uninstalling McAfee. Had the same network connection issue as what has been discussed. This connection problem was true for both the wireless connection as well as a direct connection with the ethernet cable.
Error was: Default Gateway Not Available
Basically the virus protection had expired (3 month trial) and McAfee was being a big brother and blocking the connection to the internet to protect the PC from getting a virus.
You absolute hero.
I was having the same problem with my new laptop, and this being my first experience with W7 I had no idea what was going on. I un-installed McAfee and switched to Avast! and the problem is sorted.

have a windows 7, default gateway not available - and mcafee free trial for 3 months...after unninstalling mcafee- everything back to normal. hope it helps
I have a FRESHLY INSTALLED copy of Windows 7 and am getting this issue after a single restart. I had this issue on my old copy of windows 7 and did a fresh install with a partitioned hard drive This is indeed an issue with windows. I have zero programs installed. Only the bare bones, default programs. Micro$oft, gett off your lazy **** and fix this.
