Hello,

I just entered a CD into my disc drive and noticed nothing was happening. So I went to manually click on the disc drive itself, and saw that it was completely gone. When going through the troubleshooting process in Windows 7, this note came up:

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled.  An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32).

Obviously I need to re-enable this service, but I am clueless as to which one or how to do so. Any help would be appreciated!

Try the following MS KB article:

Try following the steps for Windows Vista which should also work for Windows 7.

    It worked for me too.   Thanks.

    The test for reading a CD / DVD didn't provide any solution.

    But the test for writing did, and it corrected the driver problem.

    Worked great.

    Very full and interesting explanation of how drivers are handled.

    In my case, I had to create a new entry for UpperFilters as one did not exist.

    LowerFilters value is PxHIpa64 and for UpperFilters the value I put in is GEARspiWDM

    I found this value in another answer on this forum - in my case the UpperFilters entry was completely missing, so I created one.

    System is working fine, and has been for some days now.
