When are you going to fix the overheating Microsoft Wireless Mouse Nano receiver?

I bought a Microsoft wireless mouse 4000 a month ago. Yesterday it's receiver died on me. I suspect short circuit. After some research, I've realized that I was not alone with this problem, it could be a serial fault.

Once the question appeared on the forum before (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7hardware/thread/727a8f10-4aaf-4f1e-bea1-3a73f7e62cf9) but the issue was quickly dismissed.

I bought the thing whole on a trip in Europe and can't have it replaced. Thus the question is, whether to trust Microsoft for the second time and buy the same mouse again, or opt for something else? I need a mouse that works on rough surfaces. But as of now, I may need to overcome my liking for the device and opt for Logitech's Anywhere, unless you reassure me that you will have the transceiver replaced soon.

Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000

Microsoft Replacement phone#: 800-933-4750.  Product ID = D5D-00001.  Have your 4000 mouse handy when you call them.  They will need the Product ID (PID) from the bottom.

They will replace yours for free .  Replacements carry a 3 yr warranty.  You must keep the PID of the original mouse for the replacement warranty.

    I just bought a Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 about 4 months ago and today the receiver started overheating, Can I also call to get my replacement?

    I think this is happening only when we use the mouse with a desktop PC. I think so because I've used this mouse(Microsoft wireless mobile mouse 4000) with my laptop (dell studio 1558) for about 3.5 years. It worked like a charm and I loved it. Recently I brought a new desktop and started using this mouse with my new desktop. It worked for about 3 weeks and then the nano receiver gave up. Now, whenever I plugin the nano receiver to the usb port of either my laptop  or desktop, initially an error message pops up which says, 'usb device unrecognized' and after 1 minute or so, the nano receiver becomes too damn hot.

    So, I think this particular model has problems with desktops (as they have greater voltage fluctuations). It might work fine with laptops.

    I just had the same issue but am out of luck because I can't find my receipt. The person I spoke to said if I can find the receipt and fax it to them, then they can help me. I'm bummed, really liked the mouse, but will seek out a different one, possibly a different brand because I'm afraid this might happen again.

    Thanks so much.  Lost my receiver a few months ago, can't find it anywhere.  Now i will finally be able to use my mouse again!
