When I try to "Find Printer (in MSWord, e.g.) I get the message: The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable.
I'm running Vista Ultimate (SP2) on a home network; and I'm the Administrator.
How do I make the ADDS available?

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Answers forum! To add to Lorie – One’s suggestion, please try following the steps below:
>Go to Control Panel
> Select Printers
> Right-click on Add Printer
> Select Run as Administrator
Now try to add your network printer.

I have done this, but even in Administrator mode, I cannot designate the printer as the default printer. we do not have the current default printer, so when I delete it, office programs cannot find any printer. Currently, they all show up in Word, Publisher, Power Point, but not in Excell.

Your solution is short-handed and not useful.
Why couldn't you spend a little more time in writing "how to add network printer."?
Dick Bard posted as administrator and you either missed or ignored it.
When logging in as administrator, he will not see "administrator" by right clicking.
Overall, your reply was low level and shocking to readers
who expects an expert answer from someone who works for Microsoft.

This worked for me. I was using Windows 7 and Comodo. Disabling the Defense+ worked. I re-enabled it and it allowed me to continue printing afterwards.
By switching Comodo's Defense+ service to off and restarting Word, the printer automagically appeared. There was no mode in which Defense+ allowed me to print using Word 2010 ONLY. I could print in any other application. This is strange, but then again why Word needs access to virtual drives like Q: is strange. Sorry Comodo, but problem solved for me.
