Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is missing on my computer

I am trying to upload pictures from my digital camera and it goes to a box for cds ,  (like I want to put it on a cd) not the normal one that comes up for putting pictures in a file. I looked for " Windows Picture and Fax Viewer " and can not find it on my computer anywhere. I have no idea where it went. PLEASE help me recover this. I did a system restore back to when it was there, and still it is not there.

Just to verify...you must be running Win XP (not Vista) to

have WP&FV...

The following command should force a reinstall of WP&FV...

Go to...Start / Run and type

         (or copy/paste):

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

(yes, the space after the 2 and the space

after the i is required)

Press...Enter...

You should see a dialog box that says:

DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shimgvw.dll succeeded

    And thanks again for the response.  The computer response is the same with both run command inputs.  The exact dialog box text reads... Load Library("shimgvw.dll") failed-The referenced assembly is not installed on this system.  Quotes inside parenthesis are actual.  The the second command had C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll inside the parenthsis.

    And I dug into the sys32 folder and the shimgvw.dll file is there.

    I'm not stumping the panel here am I?

    I'm no expert on this...maybe I am really stumped.

    Long shot but it may be worth a try to rename your current

    shimgvw.dll file to OLDshimgvw.dll...this should force windows

    to create a new copy of the file.

    And you may have to run the following command once more:

    regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

    If this fails...I'm all out of ideas...sorry.

    Thank you for the response.  The quotations were only for the thread.  I placed them in the Run command box without the quotes.

    OK...thanks for the update.

    Here's another command you could try:

    regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll

    (Yes, there's a space between 2 and %)

    If this is successful...you should see a dialog box that says:

    DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll succeeded
