My taskbar keeps disappearing randomly and will not come back until I restart.  Once I restart the taskbar comes back and then disappears again. I have looked at the other solutions from people having similar problems and the solutions do not work.

open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Task Manager)

Click on File>New Task (Run) and enter "explorer.exe" (without the quotes)

Then click OK.

Does it come back?

I found that you might not even have to wait for your screensaver to pop up, just preview your screensaver and it might pop back I've done this once but it works and will hopefully continue to do so

I have been having this same issue since I got new computer with Windows 7 about a month ago.  Taskbar is fine unless I leave computer for awhile then it disappears. Only way to get it back ( I thought) was restart but I just tried the preview of screen saver and the taskbar came back. Thanks for the tip but Microsoft needs to fix this annoying bug.

Thank you,JWMA! Your solution worked for me. I have Toshiba notebook with Vista SP2.

For me, the task bar started to disappear only recently, it seems it started after I installed Apple iTunes. I suspect the Apples's Bonjour service might be causing this.

I plan to get rid of Bonjour service, let's see if it helps.

I've had iTunes for a long time on this computer; taskbar thing only started happening after my daughter asked for a 3rd party screensaver.  Keep them off!!

JWMA's solution worked for me.  Thanks!

Same thing here after I installed the initial scan to get Windows 7 update.

    TEMPORARY FIX:

Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Start Task Manager)

    Click on the PROCESSES tab

Find the "explorer.exe" under IMAGE Name and click on it

Click "End Process" (Lower right corner) (This closes the previous explorer desktop)

Click on FILE (upper left corner)

    Click on NEW TASK

    Type in "explorer"

    Hit OK button

I've also noticed that if I close out all of my applications and then put machine into sleep mode, when I wake it, the task bar is still active.  If my machine starts the screen saver or is left idle too long, my task bar disappears again.

COME ON GUYS:  FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!  I"m tired of the work around.
