If you are seeing that error it's very likely the disk is failing even though it appears to be working OK. The disk itself and Windows both try to detect and automatically repair errors. If Windows is seeing errors it means the disk can no longer repair them. There are other reasons why this error may show up but you should test the disk ASAP. You should also make sure that any important data on the disk is backed up.  The laptop may have come with a program to test the hardware. If not try this program.

I tried doing this but I'm getting a message :

Windows can't check the disc while it's in use

Do you want to check for hard disk errors the next time you start your computer?

it's gives an option to schedule disk check or cancel but when i click on schedule disk check, it doesnt pull up another window or it doesn't do anything. And I also tried restarting the computer thinking that it will do the disc check but it's does not.

Just in case anyone else searches for this error:

This error can also occur due to a piece of malware on your system, and it masquerades as a real system message.

However, you will notice a red X icon in your system tray, and if you click on it (left or right), it will pop up a "System Fix" window with all the "errors" you have on your system.

Run the system in safe mode with networking, and do a full scan with Malwarebytes Antimalware.  Reboot into normal mode, and see if the errors return.

Then, just to be thorough, run Scandisk as well.

However, I have heard the malware likes to hide files on your drives as well, so hopefully you won't have to go through that mess.

Its always better to check your system for malware BEFORE jumping to the assumption that some piece of hardware has just magically failed.

That kind of irrational thinking will cost you time and money.
