How to completely remove Copilot from Edge?

There is a group policy entry to disable copilot, you have to enable it. I have not tried it but it seems like a good option.

Here is where you need to go:

It is called Disable Windows Copilot and can be found under User Configuration => Administrative Templates => Windows Components => Windows Copilot.

There are many ways to launch the group policy editor. You can do a search from the WINDOWS SEARCH TOOL BAR for "group policy" or it can be opened from the Command Prompt. Open a Windows Command Prompt and type 'gpedit' or 'gpedit. msc', then hit Enter

Tried your suggestions but copilot still there when I do a search in Edge

The following is what I have tried to turnoff or remove Copilot from the Edge browser.

I have turned Off Copilot from Edge Settings > Sidebar > App and Notification Settings > Copilot >

Within the Copilot Settings I have 'Show Copilot' - Turned Off.

'Automatically Open Copilot' is also Turned Off, along with 'Allow Microsoft to access page content' - Turned Off.

'Show shopping notifications' - Turned Off.

There has also been suggestions to remove Copilot completely by opening Group Policy User Configuration.

I only have WIndows 10 Home, however, Group Policy User Configuration is not available in the Home version.

Group Policy User Configuration is only available in Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise.

Don't know about WIndows 11 versions.

I also have tried changing the Default Search Engine - Edge Settings > Privacy, search and services.

Scrolling down the page to the end to the second last option Address Bar and Search >

I changed the Default Search Engine from Bing to Google.

As Bing is part of the Edge browser it reamains (Recommended)

After restarting the Edge browser, Bing is still my search engine, not Google.

To what I have read elsewhere, there is a problem with Bing and Copilot Search Box that does not recognise the change.

All I know is that since Copilot was added to the Edge browser it has and continues to be a pain and inconvenient enhancement to me

The Copilot icons cannot be removed so they will always display whether turned on or not.

I hope the above information helps with other peoples frustration with Copilot.

I've already disabled Copilot in the sidebar. I've toggled off "Chat response on result page" in the search settings. I want the Copilot AI disabled from the search result page, preventing automatic chatboxes on searches, and not activating when scrolling to the top of the results page.

Open your browser and run a search for anything.
In the new page at the top-right you should see the three-bar icon for more settings - click on that and go to Copilot Settings.
You can turn off both the copilot window and copilot generated search results from there.

Why can't we remove Copilot from Edge / Windows ?

Because for a while now, Windows has stopped being an OS and has become an AS... an Advertising System.

Understand this: AI is not for you. It's to help big corp make up adverts that are going to be so good, you're gonna go "That's what I was looking for!"

So if MS makes it possible to remove the imbedded AI out of Windows... their whole business model goes down the drain.

I know... I work for a big corp... and I fix broken Windows all day long.

I mean... Wha d'ya think? That Windows ain't a cash cow? That the following "services" aren't paid services?

It is not a joke people! For a home computer, linux is a viable alternative. Download whatever Linux distribution (flavor) you like the name of, set it up on a USB drive and run it. It won't affect your Windows' installation.
