How to completely remove Copilot from Edge?

Did you perform a restart after running the regedit change? It's a bit old school but a registry change can sometimes take a couple of reboots to apply it cleanly. Why? Well you change the registry setting and then reboot it to enforce the new value. The second reboot applies the enforced new value.

Let's just check a few items first.

Qu1: Is this a Corporate issue or personal private PC?

If it is a Corporate issue then they're probably applying policies to enforce Edge and Bing, so no matter what you do it will keep coming back at you.

If it is a private PC, do you have any VPN connections to a corporate system that might be applying Conditional access policies to your device before allowing you to connect? (that's a BYoD + InfoSec requirement for some Corporations that don't/won't provide virtual desktops for you)

Qu2:

Did you make Chrome or Firefox your default browser (anything as default as long as it isn't Edge) ?

Qu3:

Did you then make Chrome/Yahoo/DuckDuckGo your default search engine and remove Bing from your device ?

Qu4:

Did you apply the registry modification to disable Copilot?

If its a private device, with no VPN conditional access, with Chrome as default browser and Edge fully removed, then I'd advise checking that the registry change actually 'took'. If it hasn't, rerun the registry change and reboot twice.

If that still hasn't fixed it then we're up against a new level of persistence here.

I went through all of these steps and rebooted, it still did not work.

I have already done all that, but each time I start Edge again, Copilot still wants to have it's say. And Copilot response on result page is still turned on again after turning it off. Desperation answers are needed. So it is Bing doing it?

Yes, BING SEARCH is doing it... NOT EDGE. I think that most of you are misinterpreting A. User's problem. The problem is turning off Copilot in BING SEARCH, not Microsoft Edge. Turning off Copilot in Edge is easily done. Turning off Copilot in Bing Search is so far impossible. You will need to change the default search engine in Edge.

To what I understand from what I have read from other websites is that Copilot is embedded in the Bing Search Box, and Microsoft are not worrying about fixing the problem of allowing Copilot to be totally disabled or removed from the Bing Search Box.

I changed my default search engine under "Manage search engines" to Google using the Address Bar at the top, I now don't use the Bing Search Box. But what I don't understand is that you first must insert a minimum of a character in the Address Bar and press Enter before the Google Search Box displays directly under the Address Bar. It would be nice if the Google Search Box or at least a box to tick for the Google Search Box display, instead of using the Address Bar first.

In the section where you can change the Search Engine to Google or any other search engine, it shows Bing (Recommended). I think because Bing is Recommended that prevents Copilot from being disabled or removed from the Bing Search Box.

My frustrations with Copilot have eased knowing I can now use Google Search Engine via the Address Bar without the need to use the Bing Search Box.

Both of these have been turned off since the initial installation. I am still getting copilot randomly showing up without any prompt or action on my part.

I've noticed it on a second pc as well. It is getting impossible to control all of these add-ons that are on by default. It's a serious problem that's really hurting the product. Edge is definitely getting uninstalled and I would recommend the same to anyone. But not like Microsoft cares. You purchase a licensed piece of software and they still think they have a right to get their hands back in your pocket.
