Troubleshooting browser crashes or performance issues on Windows 10
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Yesterday, I wanted to clean up my favorites in Edge (remove duplicates, remove obsolete links). In the midst of this, Edge closed without warning or error message. When I restarted Edge, it closed immediately. I could not select the three dots in the top right. It closed too quickly.
I found several possible solutions including tools in the Settings/Apps menu, other fixes involving removing and then reinstituting the %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe directory
None of these fixes worked.
When I restart Edge, it closes immediately.
How can I get it to work properly?

This worked very well for me, and I did this only once.
I finally succeeded in resolving this issue by doing the following:
1 Navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data
2 Rename this folder to: User Data OLD
3 Restart EDGE. This will create a new User Data folder, and you will still have all your previous favorites etc.
This worked very well for me.
This did nothing for me
I just encountered this fault for the second time in our org.
The fix that has worked both times is to rename the "Preferences" file to "Preferences.old" in the following location
C:\Users\BrownJ\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default
Nice work Conrad, this worked for me after everything else on this discussion failed. I lost all my browser stuff but its way better than not working at all. New Edge profile is the ticket here like you said.
Sorry for not knowing, but how do I get to: %localaddpdate - and so forth?
