Troubleshooting browser crashes or performance issues on Windows 10
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Yesterday, I wanted to clean up my favorites in Edge (remove duplicates, remove obsolete links). In the midst of this, Edge closed without warning or error message. When I restarted Edge, it closed immediately. I could not select the three dots in the top right. It closed too quickly.
I found several possible solutions including tools in the Settings/Apps menu, other fixes involving removing and then reinstituting the %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe directory
None of these fixes worked.
When I restart Edge, it closes immediately.
How can I get it to work properly?

I suddenly started having this issue today, first thing I did was try to run repair.
OS: Win11 23H2 (22631.4169)
Anytime i open edge it crashes after pageload.
I found out if i ctrl + rightclick and pick private browsing, it does not crash immidiately, and I have a short time to browse around in settings before it crashes.
In edge InPrivate-window I can type in edge://crashes/ and see a crash dumbfile is being generated every time, but cant send any as my browser manages to crash beforehand.
When i browse to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Crashpad\reports I can see the crashfiles.
When i run a dumbfile trough WinDBG (dumb analyzer) 'WinDBG.exe -z "C:\mydumbfile.dmb"' and use !analyze -v I get the following end result.
link to dumbfile text -> https://justpaste.it/g2maa
Which tell me its related to msedge.dll and logs I think.
If I open the dumb file in a text viewer and scroll to the buttom, it tells me something about my gpu.

Updated my GFX driver, but seems to do nothing.
Im a bit at a loss atm, will have to think more about it.
Yeah- that did it, so far. Deleted the most recent dated extension which was when my problem began. Two days back from now. Lost AdBlocker somewhere along the way. No big. I can reinstall it. I think it's called a widget now. Thanks for the help!
As DAVID-M instructs ( - on August 15, 2023 ) I tried repair, modify, install and more tries - just like everyone else. NO SUCCESS. "Edge" is built in the OS. I'm not a OS programmer.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.
Repair Microsoft Edge as instructed below:
See if MS Edge will open stable.
Feel free to ask back any questions.
Ether of these are accessible. They are not highlighted for edit or modify or uninstall. What next?
The modify button is greyed out eventhough I'm the only one using it.ican't use the power shell tip. And everything else proposed.
MS really needs to re-evaluate how simplify troubleshooting and quickly resolving Edge not launching properly. I wasted too much time for no solution.
