I just added the --disable-features=msFavoritesMonolineFolder and the folder are back to normal. Thank you for your help with this.
Leave it to Microsoft to cause such calamity!
I have the same exact version that you indicated, and my icons are still hollow rectangles. They look like ****. Evidently Microsoft made another executive decision that angered many people!

Can someone, pretty please, create a workaround or extension to fix this, there are no other web-browsers that use colour favourite folders, and the only reason I went over to Edge was because of folder colour, good old fashion, manilla folder colour.
So sick of these unnecessary changes, move it back to the original colour or at the very least give users the option to edit the folder colour.
P.S. If none of the above can be done, can someone please create a new web-browser and make everything customisable? LOL Please, I am willing to pay to have my folders go back to normal.
