Edge suddenly stopped completing downloading PDFs after update yesterday. Cant uninstall. All files remain as "Unconfirmed XXXXX.crdownload". Tried all usual fixes, AV, clear history, turn off all extensions, repair/reinstall, different folder, etc. Chrome and all other browsers save just fine! Saving as webpages works fine too, just save as PDF does not.

    Thanks N.K10 for the info.

For those who tried updating Edge through Windows Update, it does not work. What you have to do is the following:

    • Start Edge
    • Open the ellipsis menu in the upper right corner
    • Go to Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge

If an update is available, it will automatically start downloading it and you'll be prompted to restart Edge to apply the update.

As of today, I updated Edge on all my machines through this procedure, and all of them downloaded an update that fixed the problem.

    That's it!

Running into this issue as well. I had mixed results using "Microsoft Print to PDF" option vs the "Save to PDF" option. I went ahead and installed cutePDF writer for people that were running into this, and that seems to be working more consistently.

Based on my tests, the problem seems to be related to a certain setting in the Edge browser, so please follow the steps below to see if you can fix it:

    1. Go to settings on Microsoft Edge Browser
    2. Go to the Downloads section (URL: edge://settings/downloads)
    3. If “Ask me what to do with each download” is toggled on, turn it off
    4. See if downloads are showing up correctly now

    Hi AJ27272,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community

I understand the frustration you're experiencing with Microsoft Edge not completing PDF downloads. Here are several potential solutions to try:

    1. InPrivate Mode: Sometimes, issues with extensions can cause problems with downloads. Check if downloading works in InPrivate mode. If it does, you may need to disable or uninstall problematic extensions.
    2. Change Download Location: If your current download folder is full or has issues, changing the download location in Edge's settings might help.
    3. Antivirus Interference: Overprotective antivirus software can sometimes block downloads. Consider disabling your antivirus temporarily or adding the file to a whitelist/exception list. Disclaimer: Temporarily turn off real-time Microsoft Defender antivirus protection in Windows Security. However, keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once issue fixed.
    4. Disable Open Office Files in Browser Option: If this issue occurs with Microsoft Office files, turning off the 'Open Office files in the browser' option in Edge's settings might resolve it.
    5. Repair Edge: If there's a corruption in the Edge browser, repairing it might help. You can do this through the Settings app under Apps > Installed apps.
    6. Run an SFC Scan: System File Checker (SFC) can fix corrupt or missing system files that might be causing issues. You can run an SFC scan from the Windows Terminal (admin).
    7. Reset Edge Settings: If all else fails, resetting Edge to its default settings might be necessary. This can be done from Edge's settings under the Reset settings tab.
    8. Close High Memory/CPU Usage Apps: Sometimes, high memory or CPU usage by other apps can interfere with Edge's functionality. Closing these apps via the Task Manager might help.
    9. Clear Browser Cache: A corrupt cache can cause various issues. Clearing the browser cache in Edge's settings might resolve the download problem. Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.
    10. Use a Third-Party PDF Reader: If Edge continues to have issues with PDFs, consider using a third-party PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat or Foxit as a workaround.

Thank you for your patience and understanding! If you have any questions, feel free to leave us a message.

    Sincerely

    Manson | Microsoft Support Specialist
