How can I get Edge to restore all the tabs I had open last session?

Time to switch to Chrome which does not seem to suffer from the catastrophic loss of data problem being experienced by others (and now me!) in this thread?

I'm trying to re-create the last year of my browser life but it's incredibly tedious and not all my data was saved, history is only three months' worth.

My sessions folder was empty of old files big enough to contain more than a dozen sessions each with 5-10 or more tabs in them.

MSFT, you really need to solve this problem of browser data disappearing into the ether, I presume as a result of windows updates.

I must admit, your initial short reply, in bold 😁 really did tee me off (just a tad, as you might possibly have been able to tell by my reply 🤣) - I obviously took it the wrong way, I am so glad you have come back to me, and I can now see you are an absolutely fine guy, so I apologise if my reply appeared a little bit stroppy 😀.

I actually also posted the solution on several other Microsoft question threads about tabs being lost, just to try and help as many people as I could, and, one guy, Dan I think, replied that it unfortunately hadn't helped him, but I felt I could reply and ask him exactly what part of the solution hadn't worked, as I desperately wanted to know exactly why it hadn't worked as I just couldn't understand why it wouldn't. He replied that my solution hadn't failed at all, the problem was his computer had actually completely crashed, as opposed to him having just forgotten to press the "Restore tabs" button (or it not appearing for him to press), so, when he entered my command prompt, he found that the session and tab file record page that it leads to was completely blank from the crash, therefore his computer had completely lost the session and tab files which held his lost tabs, so it was obviously impossible for him to just delete the newer ones and leave his old ones, then simply restart edge to restore his tabs, as there were no files showing at all on the page to do this. Selfishly!!, this reply made me hugely glad I had asked him exactly what he had done, or I would have been thinking there was some problem with my solution, so I was a very happy Bunny! (Dan wasn't though, of course, bless him!😀).

I did want to ask you as well, if there was any particular part of the solution you had a problem with, but, based on my misreading of your first reply, I thought you might rip me a new one if I dared ask 🤣🤣😆😆, so I thought I would leave that.

Now I'm a bit less scared😁😁, could I just ask you (just in case I can tweak my answer to suit different circumstances in the way in which people lose their tabs). When you tested it, was it by having a whole load of tabs open, then just turning your computer off (or pressing restart), with them all still open - that is always how I turn my computer off believe it or not, and probably not the right way to do it, and different to how other people do it I guess? Then turned your computer back on again, opened Edge, and you just had one window appear? With just the normal Bing search page tab and no other tabs showing and just the restore message?, then you just clicked on the + sign at the end to open a new tab, which I think gets rid of the restore message?, then just ran my command prompt, did you then get up the page with the two session and two tab files showing? but then BEFORE (very important! 😁), deleting any of the files at all on that page, first shut edge with Task manager, and only THEN, went back to the page and left only the top (and therefore oldest I believe), Session file open, deleting any others showing, but also leaving only the top one of the Tab files showing, deleting all other Tab files, then you just restarted Edge?

Sorry to be a pain, but I just wanted to be sure I had explained it to everyone correctly and there is not some phrasing I have done which makes people do it in some other way or some slightly different order I hadn't intended, causing it to fail (such as other people turning their computers off or back on in different ways to how I do it).

Thant is not true. I restarted my laptop several times int he past and Edge never restored previous tabs or history. The developers should develop a better way to restore previous tabs or history. Why should I restore those tabs manually?

I found a solution that "magically"" worked for me.

A bit of history first - I lost all my tabs after a reboot. I tried the CNTL-SHIFT-T to no avail. Looked at the recently closed tabs in history and it was also blank. I simply felt defeated as I lost many dozens of well-organized pages.

Days later - I decided to spend the hours to rebuild my tabs. To my surprise, when I went to my first web page (Yahoo Mail) and clicked on it to add it to a TAB, it showed me the list of my previously created tabs. So, I chose the SAME one this page had been in before. Then BOOM - EVERY single one my lost tabs and their webpages came back to life.

No clue why - but at this point - I am just happy to have those hours back ;-)

They shouldn't be you're right about that but until Microsoft fixes the problems with Edge we'll simply have to persevere. The main problems are to get rid of stupid things like Co-Pilot and Personal Vault.
