How to Uninstall/Reinstall Edge

Edge keeps crashing in Windows 11. I have already tried quite a few troubleshooting steps suggested here and it's still not fixed. The last suggestion I received before reinstalling Windows is to reinstall Edge. (Not repair/reinstall from the Add/Remove Programs menu, I've already tried that). I did this but it doesn't look like it worked. When I opened Edge after the reinstall all my tabs re-opened and I just don't think the reinstall worked correctly. Is there a way to uninstall Edge completely and then reinstall it? The option is grayed out in the Remove programs menu.

    I realize this is a dated article... I am trying to uninstall and reinstall Edge - have suddenly started experiencing odd issues. I run the script as suggested using PowerShell. I am not receiving any errors however I am instantly returned to the prompt and nothing appears to have happened. Have the setup.exe parameters changed in the latest versions of Edge? The new Application sub-directory is now "131.0.2903.112".

    I have found that booting into windows safe mode allows me to delete all of Microsoft edge (folders are in C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft). While this is technically not the "right" way, it does allow you to remove it (even in file explorer)!

    Hi,

    I've learned a few things since I first posted this question. The one thing I've learned that really matters here is that Windows 11 requires Edge as it uses it as the base for its GUI. Because of this, Windows won't function if Edge is not installed. So, if you want to remove Edge, just remove Windows 11. Also, that's why you (and the rest of us) get an error when we try to use the Command prompt or Power Shell to make changes to it or remove it.

    Like the rest of us, you're just going to have to learn to ignore it until Microsoft actually makes it worth using. Yeah, the content they put on their pages, etc absolutely sucks.

    After Windows Update on LTSC, it gets installed for no reason. I never asked for it. And it does not let me uninstall even with direct execution of setup.exe with the uninstall flag.

    The one reason I am using Windows is because Apps can be run in a portable manner, unlike Linux. So I never had to install any programs even after resetting the system. Forcing all these things in, I may as well just use Linux.

    Here you say Edge can't be uninstalled, yet your earlier post give steps to do just that.

    BTW, when I ran that command nothing happened. I don't see an option in your instruction to run PowerShell as Administrator.

    Confused …

    My reason for wanted a reinstall is that I have a situation whereby any/all cookies with zero (0) bytes will never delete, even though a message says they have.

    I had hoped a new install would cure that.
