Chromium & Chrome Will Not Save Passwords After 2004 Update

Thoughts?

It would help if you could confirm that:

1. You are not running any third-party security software (Norton, McAfee, Avast etc.). 

If you can't confirm this, please say what software (version name and number). 2. You don't have any tasks scheduled that use S4U authentication. The instructions for how to find out were given in my earlier response in this thread. 3. You have none of the options enabled on this page: edge://settings/clearBrowsingDataOnClose(copy that and paste it into the address bar in a new tab).

If you have enabled any of them, please say which ones.

These three cover the known reasons for faults similar to the one you're seeing. The symptoms vary from case to case; I wouldn't expect clearing browsing data to cause the fault you're seeing, but nos. 1 and 2 are possible culprits.

Hello all.  I had hoped that the 20H2 release would take care of this issue.  However, after installing it (this time in a user profile and not as admin), it started to erase them after 30 minutes and forced me to restore.  This made the fourth and final time I will attempt.  I contacted Microsoft via chat and the help there is completely clueless and can barely address the most basic of questions. Even AI would have done a better job and that isn't saying much.  They first stated that losing the Chrome passwords is a problem for Google to handle until I told them that this is also happening with my Outlook which is an installed version from my very expensive Office Pro purchase, not Office 365.  Also, what I think may be important to acknowledge here is that I have a laptop that I downloaded the 2004 (and the 20H2) update and it works fine.  However, it should also be noted that I updated to Windows 10 from Win 8 in January.  That same week I updated my desktop to 10 from Windows 7 Pro and I am wondering if that isn't the issue.  I was very happy with Win 7 Pro and was very upset to lose it. I do not like Win 10.  I'm wondering if MS failed to adequately design Win 10 Pro so that it adequately overwrites Win 7 Pro or if there is a corrupt file somewhere.  Thoughts?

However, I have noted in the few thread seen hear something that may be contributing to the problem if not the problem I have two users on my computer Mine as Admin level and another at user level. the admin level works fine. However, the general user does not. Specifically, it will allow you to save the password, and the password appears to be saved if one looks at the settings/password menu. However, when the browser is closed and reopened the passwords are not shown or accessed.  Does this help?

I have found that the problem with saved passwords not being displayed is a corrupt user profile. Once I made myself a new local profile I could access my save passwords without having to sign in to my MS account. I do not know how that would work with a profile that is assigned as a user as my profile is assigned admin. It is worth a try and does not take long to reset up the desktop.

My particular problem/gripe is that all of us are spending our time trying to sort out problems created by MS, rather than by our own actions.

Suggestions are made, and tried, some work some don't.

Surely MS should be offering solutions rather than for their users to waste time  prodding around in the dark trying well intentioned solutions.

I held off installing 20H2 but have now done so. 

A couple of passwords are now randomly saved, but then disappear again.

The 2004 update is the root of the problem.

Does nobody have an inside track to MS?
