Chromium & Chrome Will Not Save Passwords After 2004 Update

I suppose you're referring to Task Scheduler, which isn't the same as Task Manager.

In what way did this procedure not work? 

• There were no results from the PowerShell command?
• The PowerShell command gave an error? What did it say?
• You couldn't find the task(s) the command referred to?
• You disabled the tasks, but the password retention failure persists?

There are three known causes of the symptoms you describe:

• Scheduled tasks using S4U authentication;
• Deleting Hosted app data on close (fixed, but possibly broken again);
• Interference from third-party security software.

If it's not one of the first two that's causing your problem, then the third is the most likely. I've not seen any reports from affected users where none of these three applies.

The task manager fix does not work for me and I have the same issue, that all my saved passwords disappeared and nothing I do will allow them to be re-saved. As soon as the laptop re-starts the passwords are lost again. I created a password vault using LastPass but even with this option ticked to remain logged in and to log in when I start the browser (I've tried using Chrome and Edge) I still have to sign back into LastPass each time to activate the password vault. It also requires me to sign in to Microsoft Word and Excel (all Office365 products) as well, each time I open them. Yes the only information I can find on any of this is in these forum sites, with everyone passing suggestions to each other, but MS doing absolutely nothing about it..... there must be a way to hold them accountable for an update that they have released. You don't even get the chance these days to view updates before installing them, which at least you could previously do and choose not to install, but now they install without you being allowed to intervene. I've tried uninstalling the recent updates, but it made no difference, so I also tried to restore but it didn't give me any indication of how far back it was going to restore to so I bailed out. You used to be able to select a date to restore from but you can't do that any more either.

You'd have to be very lucky for an MSFT employee to see your post, I'm afraid.

Part of the problem is that you replied to a thread which started with this complaint: Edge Chromium will not save passwords I have imported from Firefox after the 2004 update. If this isn't the problem you're facing, it would be best to use the Ask a question option at the top of the page to start your own thread about your own specific problem.

There have been two unrelated problems with retaining log-in data that emerged during the summer. One was caused by a bug in Edge that was fixed recently. This caused cookies (which contain among a lot of other stuff the data that keeps your sign-in data for many websites between visits) to be deleted on closing the browser. Please click ⋯ (Settings and more) > Help and feedback > About ... to check that your Edge is up to date. The current version is 86.0.622.58. 

The other is the one I described a couple of replies ago. Because this one is caused by a change in Windows, it will have to wait for a Windows Update for the fix to be deployed. I also described the workaround involving Task Scheduler, which clearly helped Boing Boing to solve his problem. If this is too daunting for you, could you find a knowledgeable friend to help you go through the process?

Sorry. Your suggestion has not worked for me. All I get is negatives.

As this problem has only arisen since update 2004 does any body know if MS are going to sort out this bug??

Does the optional update 20H2 make things worse or better. ?

What frustrates me is that everything worked fine until the update, and as a sole worker I have spent hours trying all the various solutions without success.

Thanks - that worked very well. In our case we had an HP printer with an online ink subscription (InstantInk). Editing the task scheduler entry for this fixed the problem. Prior to this things like cookie preferences and passwords in Outlook were needing to be re-entered at what seemed almost like random intervals.
