360 videos in WMR not working

Hello,

I'm having issues with the new Microsoft edge playing 360/vr videos in WMR. First of all, to get an option to play vr video I have to go through that app "360 videos" in the cliff house. Finding a 360 video via youtube in edge directly doesn't work because the goggle icon on the bottom of the screen is missing. However, if I start any of the offered 360 videos via the cliff house 360 video app, that opens youtube video in the edge, and now the goggle icon is present. This allows me to play VR videos, but really this doesn't work either because the videos are very choppy. I did not have this issue prior to the new edge installation. I'm using Samsung Odyssey+. Any suggestions to solve this issue?

After looong trial and error,.....

Start with a reboot, Googles HDMI connected, USB disconnected (after completed boot),....plug in Goggles (USB), .......

Make sure Mixed Reality Portal NOT running and controllers are not connected to your computer (bluetooth)

On Desktop, run Microsoft Edge> go to youtube select a 360 video, you'll see the Goggle Icon , click it to enter VR,

now Mixed Reality Portal will start, ....put on your Goggles and enjoy the video.

After that you can select any other 360 video and it will work as long as all control stays with the desktop.

REPEAT:

All control has to stay with the desktop, otherwise it will not work.

Controllers have to stay disconnected, otherwise it will throw you back into the Cliff House

Hope this helps, and please,.....Microsoft,.....GET IT FIXED !!!

My setup:

Samsung Odyssey+

Win 10 v21H1 (Os Build 19043.1055), i7-9750H, Nvidia RTX 2060, 32GB

(All latest Drivers)

    Hi Patrick,

    1. Yes, without starting my headset any vr video is extremely stuttery. Like 1 frame per second, pauses of 5 seconds , and as soon as I start a vr video the fans of my pc start blowing like mad (and stop blowing as soon as I stop the video). Processor usage ramps up from 5% to 80%.

In Chrome and Firefox VR videos run perfect.
I9 9900, 2080 Super, no integrated gfx card

This issue does seem to happen with the latest version, I didn't have this issue in the past.

    1. Non-VR videos work perfect.

I downgraded OpenXR to 106 and the WebXR demo still gives me a black screen with 4 spinning balls.
That is with only my G2 headset turned on, I left the controllers disconnected.

Thank you for the information Warrie - we're investigating this now and will have a fix as soon as possible. I'll update this thread when we have more information.

    For the stuttering:

    1. Do you experience this before clicking the VR button as well?
    2. What about on regular YouTube videos (non-360 ones)?

And last question - can you try downgrading to OpenXR 106.xxx and see if you the issue still persists there?

    1. Launch the "OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality" app
    2. Go to the "Developer Settings" tab
    3. Toggle off "Use latest OpenXR runtime preview"
    4. Go to the "System Status" tab, and ensure the version is 106.xxxx.xxxx. If you still see 107, restarting the app / your computer should toggle it back to 106.
    5. Close all instances of Edge, restart, and try the same WebXR scenario.

    Hi VitorBruno3,

360 videos and photos are already implemented in Microsoft Edge. If you're experiencing issues with them, can you post the information requested at the bottom of page 3 of this thread?
