New Microsoft Edge freezing intermittently forcing restart

The new Edge browser will occasionally freeze. When this happens there is no screen control and ending the Edge process using the task manager closes the browser window bur does not release all the resources forcing me to restart the PC. This can happen on a webpage or when watching videos. Is this a known problem and has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? I am running Windows 10 with the 2004 update installed, have no problems with other applications and no freezing when using Firefox or Chrome

Renamed to what?? The Edge browser is completely unusable. So very disappointed with MS.

    Complete garbage.

I have the same issue going on with my wife's two month old laptop. Edge (and Chrome) constantly causing slowdowns, freezes, and then total lock ups. So far Firefox hasn't been causing the same issue even on the same web pages. When Edge locks up computer sometimes waiting long enough will correct the issue but most often the laptop requires a reboot. Using Windows 10 21H1.

I had thought that Bitdefender might be causing the issue but after removing Bitdefender and using a different threat protection I am having the same issue.

I've tried disabling Hardware Acceleration, clearing cache, and a multitude of other suggestions that I've found on the internet. Nothing seems to help but I've only disabled Hardware Acceleration very recently. Maybe I'll give it some time with that disabled and see what happens.

Considering Edge and Chrome are "supposed" to be the best browsers to use and Edge comes directly from Microsoft you wouldn't think Edge would be freezing Windows 10.

I've always been a Firefox guy myself and that's what I use on my own laptop but my wife prefers Chrome. When Chrome started freezing the laptop we went to Edge but it freezes it just as much, maybe more.

Any more suggestions for fixes? I wish I could just take this damn laptop back to where I purchased it and replace it.

My computer works fine up until I open Edge. It really looks like I won't be able to use it. What a shame.

I've  been  trying  to  use  Edge  since  launch  as  I  was  a  fan  of  IE. But  sorry  to  say  it  never  worked  smoothly  forcing  me  to  shift  to  Chrome  or  other  lighter  browsers. It  seems  MS  have  tried  to  include  too  many  things  in  browser  without  being  optimised  for  memory  usage  like making  it  default  programme  for  everything. MS  will  do  well  to  make  it  lighter  and  faster  in  upcoming  update.
