The new Edge browser will occasionally freeze. When this happens there is no screen control and ending the Edge process using the task manager closes the browser window bur does not release all the resources forcing me to restart the PC. This can happen on a webpage or when watching videos. Is this a known problem and has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? I am running Windows 10 with the 2004 update installed, have no problems with other applications and no freezing when using Firefox or Chrome

what do you mean by "clearing the data site? I can't find this exact phrase on Microsoft help but I cleared cookies and browsing and it didn't work. It still freezes, something for a few minutes, sometimes for an hour; then I shut the computer. Can you please explain how you did it. thank you
My computer has "frozen" requiring restart about 5 times in the last week. This occurs shortly after I start Edge, which opens with facebook.
I cleared the site data and, for now, it has stopped hanging.
You need to update your system. The older the Windows and Edge version, the slower of which it will be. Using older Windows 10 Versions is typically slower and more prone to slow speeds whereas older Windows 10 Versions don't hold speed and stability of the entire system as well. Update your system, Reset Edge (after you save your favorites or any info you may need from Edge) and then come back and tell the community your new experience. If it still happens to be crashing, it very well could be your computer which might mean you need a factory reset or you have malware in your computer from unsafe sites. Run an antivirus (any one that you trust) and see if there is malware. If not, it may be your time to either upgrade to a new computer, or to reset yours.
I deal with a low of Edge crashing as well because, from what I can tell, Edge doesn't really like using a lot of CPU.
It could also be that you have other tasks running in the background that take up a lot of CPU during startup (Antimal Serviceware Executable takes up to around 20% to 40% of CPU on startup, which can crash Edge relatively easily.

I would not consider it Junk, support and response to issues could be criticized. I like to consider the pros of the openness of Microsoft's platform. Issues are usually a result of the many different hardware platforms as well and the openness of the platform to application developers. I get annoyed as much as anyone else, but I prefer what we get vs the expensive hardware and limited options for both hardware software for Apple products. You do have the option switch to the Apple platform. I am told they don't have such problems.
