WHY am I being FORCED to deal with Microsoft edge?

This is insane. I woke up, turned my pc on and see that while my computer updated Microsoft sneakily installed a new version of edge. The icing on the cake, however, is that my system's screen was commandeered by an unclosable presentation forcing me to watch a slow and meticulous explanation of all of the changes you've made to my system that I never asked for and want nothing to do with.

This behavior is doing the opposite of what your company wants to happen. These forceful tactics do not make anyone want to use your service and immediately make you a nuisance and enemy to the user. It's as if you as a company feel your users are going to be too stupid to notice this change or too lazy to go back to using their original browser and just passively accept the changes you've made. We're not cattle. We make our own decisions.

So here I am, taking up my time and energy trying to change things BACK to the way I had them, on the computer I pay a lot of money to own and maintain.

Microsoft Edge | Other | Windows 10

Uh ya. I've never seen something like this. I'm a Chrome user but for some reason suddenly Microsoft Windows won't allow me to connect to the internet while trying to download Chrome. Literally, I bought a new pc thinking my old one had issues as it wouldn't work after the Windows 10 recent update.

Brand new, lightning quick pc and I can only browse using Edge. I'm not going to accept being forced to use their browser. I'm also a Mac user and will go back to it before using a browser I didn't choose.

well, i got bamboozled with this today.  I would have been open to exploring edge, but not anymore with this kind of tactic.

I have uninstalled it.  Now that i know cortana only opens in edge, well, im not using it either.  Only way i can protest i suppose...and protest i will.

Fortunately there are people who are Not made from the same Mold in this world, making many people Different. There is one thing wrong with Big Corporations and that is them trying to tell everyone, what they Believe is good for us is what we need and Get.  Just as there are many different cars made, 'One Size' ______ does not fit all, the same is true for Computer Operating systems.

Apple = I tried to learn some of it but VERY Expensive and not always what I want.

Linux = Have not tried it, I not very good at spelling, dislike command line input.

Too Old to Want to learn a New OS or GUI.

    Dos 4 = yuck

    Dos 6, 6.1, 6.2  = Hate command line typing,

Win 3.1 = Much better than typing

    Windows 95 = OK

    98 = Better

    Win ME - Why?

Win XP = YEA, Finally great GUI

Win 7 Pro = Home Networking for us Lowly People at last.

    Win 8 = ?????????????

Win 10 = upgrade to Pro:  At least it works but Now I have to Pay More just to get back Home Networking after buying new stuff and software.

If everybody was the same, then why bother with colors, art, books, creativity, or anything different?

Explorer = Edge = Microsoft way or the Highway, I took the highway.

Bing came on my Samsung Phone = Never gives the search I wanted, keeps giving me what Microsoft wants me to see. Can not change the default, did Microsoft buy Samsung?

    DELETE, DELETE, DELETE !!!!

I do not need the latest and greatest all the time, Just for it to do What I want it to do.

If a computer will still do what it was designed to do and does it satisfactory, Then it is not too old !!!

    Long live the TRS-80s.

You must be having other issues with your computer as when I was presented with the Edge update upon login I was able to close the browser just fine.

No, I had to do something similar as well;  ctrl+alt+delete and then signed out rather than using the task manager.

And Richard seems to be missing a huge chunk of my point, either purposely or otherwise. Just because there are people out there who are perfectly okay and compliant with these tactics does not mean it's okay. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT the "vast majority" of users are perfectly fine turning on their machines to see changes made without their consent. I'm SURE those users who already used Edge were fine with an update, however that's not the issue here and framing the situation that way is dishonest. On your own forums there are how many topics started asking how to reverse this update?

Well, the vast majority are very happy With their Windows 10 Machines. Maybe they don't get as upset because they read the License that Microso grants-you know the one everyone has to agree too, the one if read fully gives them the right to change their software, methods of delivery, etc. People who post on this and all the other forums are only a small percentage-probably less than 15%- of all the hundreds of Millions of uses in the world. You don't like the new edge get back legacy and run them side by side. Use Firefox, or even Chrome.

I hope this helps and if you need any further assistance please post and we will be glad to assist you.

    *I'm sorry, I can't help myself*

    15% of 100 Million is 15 Million.

As of today, August 31st, 2020; I have become a statistic.

I was greeted by the Microsoft Edge icon on my Desktop and Taskbar. Luckily, I was not greeted by the horrible screen that can only be closed by following the prompts or logging out.

I am not happy about how they do business BUT I do understand that I've accepted their Terms of Use and forfeit any legal weight in doing so. Thus, nothing can be done about it, at least not by me!

I also awoke to the problem of having my PC changed to the supposedly new Microsoft edge. At this point it has screwed up my PC, it takes forever to load anything, and do mean forever.

It seems to start loading and then stops, everything loads as if I'm using dialup from back in the day.

Any suggestions on solving this problem?
