How to make links open in a new tab in Edge Chromium

Hi, does anyone know how to make links clicked open in a new tab, rather than in the existing tab, in the new Microsoft Edge Chromium, please?

    Can we please just have the Ctrl + Left Click function that other browsers have and we're all used to? Hey, could someone even write an extension that would do this?

    I think you picked a bad example. That link looks like this in the page markup in Edge 89.0.774.63:

    <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer nofollow" class="">Link to Microsoft home page</a> 

    target="_blank" means 'open in new window,' which in a tabbed browser like Edge means 'open in a new tab.' When I click on that link, the page opens in a new tab. 

    Right-click on your link and select Inspect to see the underlying HTML.

    Actually, yes...  I'm using Edge and, after some added extensions, I'm fairly happy. EXCEPT -- when I clicked a link as in an email, the link did NOT open a new tab in Edge. [I don't want to Ctrl+click or anything like that!]

    I stumbled onto the solution -- for me at least. I use Google as my search engine. If you look at Google search settings [Search Settings (google.com)], you will find option: 

    Where results open Open each selected result in a new browser window  [Y/N]

    >>>>>>     Set to Yes and clicked links open in new tab.     <======

    Couple that with "Switch to New Tab" extension and life -- and Edge -- are good!!!

    It's annoying having to use a special key combination or right-click menu choice for something we want 99.9% of the time. I sent feedback to the Edge developer team requesting an option to make left click open in a new tab by default and let Ctrl-Left click open in the active tab instead. I suggest others do the same using the Send feedback button on the toolbar.

    I'll further confuse the issue, I've been reading this thread and see that many people have this question so I'm not completely nuts after all. I've been using  MSN and  New Tab page as home pages to start. When starting with MSN, clicking on a link opens in the SAME TAB. If starting with a new tab page, clicking a link opens a NEW TAB. EXACTLY what we want.  Both MSN and the new tab page are Microsoft  products, so it can be done.  I would guess that when the wizards created Edge, they overlooked this tiny detail. There should be a setting to change the default behavior of new tabs. Perhaps they will fix it some day. For now it's a PITA.
