How to prevent Microsoft Start page from coming up when I click on a news article in the New Tab page?

Starting today (1/4/2022), whenever I click on a news article in the New Tab page, the Microsoft Start page is displayed instead. How do I stop that from happening?

    Not sure why but I'm now able to open articles that show up on New Tab. Maybe Microsoft fixed the issue. All I did was go to my default apps and hit update. Not sure if this was the fix or not all I know is I can now read the differnt news articles on new tab. Good Luck to others having had the same issue.
