How to prevent Microsoft Start page from coming up when I click on a news article in the New Tab page?

Starting today (1/4/2022), whenever I click on a news article in the New Tab page, the Microsoft Start page is displayed instead. How do I stop that from happening?

    I'm in the same boat. Just happened this morning, Jan 4th. I've tried all the suggestions and nothing works. I'm running Microsoft 10 so it's not a Microsoft 11 issue along.

    Just load up google news and it works for now.

    Microsoft Start opens when I click a news story in MY FEED but when I click an ad, the link opens the advertiser. ****???
