How to prevent Microsoft Start page from coming up when I click on a news article in the New Tab page?

Starting today (1/4/2022), whenever I click on a news article in the New Tab page, the Microsoft Start page is displayed instead. How do I stop that from happening?

    if so, it has backfired here.

    I will not be using Edge any more.

    Brave is much more easy to use, and it is polite enough to pay attention to what I want a browser to do!

    The whole app is irritating. Especially when you're in the middle of a project and up it pops. No way to get around it. Wish there was a way to disable it. If I want the news, I know how to find it.

    Fingers crossed, the links to news articles now appear to be working. Did not require any browser refresh or reinstall of any SW or reboot.
