Build 25281, Windows Security Icon/Shortcut missing from System Tray after KB5007651 Platform update Version 1.0.2301.24001.

On Jan 24, 2023, W.U. downloaded and updated Windows security with this KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2301.24001).

After this update the security icon on the system tray showed a yellow warning triangle, and then the icon completely disappeared after a reboot.

No way to get the icon back on the System Tray. 🤷‍♂️

I can still open security if I search for it in settings, but there is no apparent reason for the shortcut on the system tray to be missing.

It looks like starting with Build 25272 the windows security updates are messed up and out of sync with the currently installed windows Build.

I could reproduce the same issue restoring a backup of Build 25281 and then going through W.U. checking for updates, the same scenario repeated again.

Right after the update shows yellow warning on security icon:

Everything green here, but Firewall & network protection is missing, that may be the reason for the yellow warning.

    Split from this thread.

    Here is another inconsistency with Security on a system that previously received KB5007651.

    The security is not getting updated to 25290. Stays at 1000.25285.0.1000 that was set by the previous 2301 update. You can see the newer .appx for 25290 in SecurityHealth but they are not applied.

    Something is not right with these KB5007651 updates, they may or may not be compatible with the Windows Build currently installed.

    They created problems before with Build 21H2 and 22H2 and they were eventually pulled back.

    Seems like with are back with the same issues now with Dev. ��‍♂️

    In this specific case they seem to be compatible, and nothing is appears to be missing.

    But they sure created issues previously with Build 25281.

    Yes it is. I have always had only 3 APPX files with my PC.

    I have 2 machines like yours too.

    Missing the line below that is added by KB5007651 Version 1.0.2301.24001. 🤷‍♂️

    Because you did not receive KB5007651 on previous Builds.

    Check the folder below and you probably only have the 3 files from Jan 28th. 😎

    See the difference below on this machine, only 3 .appx files from Jan 28th, 2023, and nothing else. 🤷‍♂️

    This one never got any previous KB5007651 updates.

    And another PC updated by W.U. from 25227.1000 to 25284.1000.

    No sign of any of those 2301 kb5007651. Really weird criteria for testing. 😎

    Why on some machines and not others? Perhaps MS pulled those back, who knows? 🤷‍♂️
